On Sunday evening, off duty Toledo Firefighter, Lt. James R Schulty had just finished a hockey game at a local ice rink when he was summoned to a medical emergency involving another player who was still on the ice. Lt. Schulty quickly assessed the situation and discovered the patient had no pulse and was in cardiac arrest. After calling for an AED, Lt. Schulty began CPR and continued until the AED arrived. After placing the AED patches on the the patient and “analyzing”, one shock was administered with positive results. The patient regained a pulse and was conscious when transported to a local emergency center for further treatment.
