But this is something we had to share from one of today's inspection. When we and your realtor recommend a sewer scope on new builds, this is why...

A ball of electrical ground wire in the sewer lateral. I did have to edit some of the nasty buildup out one of the pictures. If this goes unnoticed, there will be a sewer backup into the home!

Don't Get Shocked! ⚡🚫

Did you know that using the wrong wire nuts to connect aluminum and copper branch wires is a serious fire hazard? These wire nuts are yellow, red, green, and other colors except for purple.

Why?

Oxidation: Aluminum oxidizes, creating a powdery substance that can interfere with the connection.

Different expansion rates:
Aluminum and copper expand and contract at different rates when heated, which can loosen a standard wire nut connection over time

The Safe Choice:
Always use connectors specifically designed for connecting aluminum and copper branch wires. These are typically purple in color. As shown in the last picture.

Always consult with a qualified electrician for assistance when working with the electrical system.
