Congratulations to for successfully completing the Appalachian Trail! On March 11th, 2024, I had the honor of joining Dorothy Marquet, known by her trail name Oz, at Springer Mountain in Georgia. It was a privilege to document her thru-hike and witness her evolve as a person. From the beginning, she faced challenges and uncertainties, including navigating resupplies and staying warm in unpredictable weather; however, as time passed, she instinctively adapted to the complexities of thru-hiking. I revisited some of my favorite mountains with her, including Franconia Ridge, which she now climbed with remarkable ease. She persevered through the extreme heat, rocks, rain, and mud. Through it all, she remained confident in achieving her goal of completing the trail. “I knew pretty much from day one; I always said to people, ‘I’d have to actually break my leg to quit and get off the trail; it would have to be an injury where I just couldn’t walk anymore.’” On October 6th, 2024, she completed her thru-hike on Katahdin Mountain in Maine, covering a total of 2,197.4 miles from her starting point.
Keep your eyes open for the documentary, which will be released at a later date. 🎥
