So neat! The city of Thornton has now implemented a “Text 9-1-1” feature.

This allows a person to contact emergency services (police or fire) through the use of text. Enter “911” in the “To:” field of the device, and report what needs to be reported. The dispatch center will ask where the emergency is, and advise the texter to phone 911 if they are able to speak. This is because it is obviously much easier, faster and more accurate to get the information they will need by talking via voice line. If the citizen is unable to talk physically, functionally or situationally, the text option is awesome. Using this option also allows greater GPS accuracy, used to hopefully better pinpoint the location of the texter.
