The Walk for Peace procession passed through this afternoon, and it was a tremendous privilege to serve as a designated safe haven for the group to take a brief respite.

Our hearts are heavy as we mourn the loss of four young children in a tragic fire early Saturday morning in Columbus County. The victims were ages 2, 4, 6, and 7. Two other children, both 12 years old, were able to escape without serious injury. On behalf of the NC Office of State Fire Marshal, we extend our deepest condolences to the family, friends, first responders, and the entire community as they grieve this unimaginable tragedy.
