*IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT*

Recently, the members of About Time Band have had a few life curveballs thrown at us. We've had career, health, and family dynamic changes that have made it very difficult to keep up a regular music schedule. We've discussed trying to retool and present About Time in a different lineup, but things just aren't aligning to make that happen. And to be honest, we love each other and just don't see continuing with an alternate lineup.

For that reason, About Time Band will be playing ONE FINAL SHOW on Friday night October 10th at VFW Post 972 from 7:30pm - 10:30 pm EST. This is where we started and where we've decided we'd like to finish our run.

We have had a BLAST playing for you all over the past 3 years and wish we could continue the party but it's just not in the cards at this time. We hope you come out and pack the place on October 10th for ONE LAST GO!!! We'll have a table full of commemorative T-shirts available at no cost (donations to cover the cost of the shirts will be accepted but not required).

So come out and dance the night away with us ONE MORE TIME!!!

Chris here from About Time. Many of you are aware of the incident Saturday evening that resulted in About Time leaving the TH Moose Lodge. Initially, my intention was to refrain from comment in public. However there's been enough chatter, speculation, and opinions expressed on the band's page as well as the club, that I feel it's necessary to speak into the incident and provide some background that I hope fills in some of the details and answers a few questions. I fully understand that it appears we got bent out of shape and "in a tantrum" cancelled the show. But, as someone pointed out in the TH Moose lodge thread, there are always two sides to the story.

First, for those of you that took the time to come out and see us Saturday night, I know you're disappointed. We don't take your support lightly and I hope you've decided to give us the benefit of the doubt. For those on the venue management side, I hope that our track record of consistency and professionalism is evidence that this was not a normal situation. At the end of the day, I understand both groups have reason to give pause and that's valid. Above all, please understand that I bear the responsibility for the decision to pack up. Edward Hollowman, Randy Dale, and Jim Pinkstaff were just as surprised as the Moose staff when I communicated to them that we were packing up for the evening.

The incident occured because there has been an ongoing issue with a handful of individuals representing the lodge as authority figures, pushing back against bands in general and making it very difficult for us to do our job. We've played a total of 5 times at the TH Moose since November 2024. Each show, we've been met by the same individuals complaining and making demands concerning everything from sound, music selection, lighting, gear storage, parking, etc. These individuals have interrupted shows mid-song to deliver demands, visually protested by holding their ears on the dance floor, even going so far as to stand directly in front of speakers holding decibel meters pointing angrily. Each time we've accommodated these demands and provided the best show we can considering the interruptions and push back. Perhaps I have blinders on, but I believe that if you survey the many venues that we've played for, you'll find a common theme of easy to work with, professional, and responds well to feedback (i.e. it's too loud, lights are in our eyes, could you play "xyz"). We're not known for being a loud or difficult to work with band by any means.

You might be wondering why in the world we went back each time. To be honest, we whole heartedly believe the Terre Haute music scene is better off with many club options. We share the vision that the recent leadership has laid out for the TH Moose. Because of this, we decided to continue playing at the Moose but brought our concerns to leadership on several occasions. These individuals in question have been warned on several occasions not to interfere with setup and performances or we would no longer continue to play the Moose. They had been repeatedly asked to take up their issue with their club leadership instead. These warnings had been disregarded entirely.

Saturday evening was no different. These individuals disrupted sound check demanding it be turned down. I attempted to explain that the goal of the sound check was to accomplish exactly what they were asking for and requested they let me do my job. The demands persisted and another individual joined them. Realizing the problem was not only unresolved, but actually escalating, I warned one final time. When this did not work, I decided it was time to pull the plug on the evening.

Many of you have speculated we're "thin skinned". The irony is that anyone that knows me personally is probably having a good laugh. The running joke is you can't hurt my feelings because I don't have any. The reality is, we didn't leave because we "can't take criticism". We left because I had previously drawn very clear boundaries of what was acceptable behavior and they were ignored. Through multiple warnings, these individuals persisted to the point that I decided I would not be selling the venue my service that evening. This should not have come as a surprise to anyone of authority at the Moose. Boundaries were clearly communicated and disregarded.

At the end of the day, we are not employees of the venues. Rather, we are independent contractors hired to provide a service. You're welcome to pass on the service, publicly critique us, voice concerns anytime we're not actually working. This is all acceptable. What's not acceptable is belligerent attempts at keeping us from doing what we're hired to do. My observation is the Moose seems to have an internal struggle against change and About Time has decided not to be caught in the middle. We genuinely hope that this serves as a wake up call and there is a real resolution to this internal struggle so that other bands aren't treated the same way.

If you're a venue that works with us, thank you for being good partners and please understand that this is not a normal situation. All we request is common courtesy and respect by allowing us to do the job you hired us to do. If you're a music lover that follows us, we ask that you look at this unfortunate incident as a one off situation that needed to be dealt with and continue to come out to our shows. We appreciate your support more than you know.
