The Tenafly PBA members, both active and retired, mourn the passing of Barrett "Barry" L. Buniva, on January 18th, 2025. Barry not only worked for the Tenafly Police Department but was raised in town. Barry faithfully served the Tenafly community with professionalism, humor, and a smile for decades. We hope now he may rest in peace with his wife "the lovely Jane."

Happy Holidays & a Happy and Healthy New Year!

The 2024 Toy Drive has been in full swing all month. Today, the 17th, is the last day for drop offs. If you'd like to get involved and make this holiday season brighter for military families, children in need, hurricane victims, and hospitalized children it's not too late. Bring any new, unopened, unwrapped, and non-perishable toy/ gift to Tenafly PD today.

Today's the day, the Tenafly 10th Annual Community Night! There will be rides, give-aways, live music, food, and more. The event will be held on Riveredge Road, directly in front of the PD from 5-8pm. Come on out to celebrate and meet the local businesses, first responders, and municipal employees.

This year the Tenafly PBA is teaming up with Hackensack Brewery to host a biergarten fundraiser. Show your support buy purchasing a collectible PBA glass! While you're there don't forget to grab your free hot dog.

It's with heavy hearts that we say goodbye to (Rtd.) Lieutenant Paul Cantwell after his bout with cancer has come to an end. Affectionately refered to as "Canty" by his friends and family, he would be annoyed that this post even exists. But, a life well lived is one that deserves to be acknowledged, remembered, and celebrated. Especially, one that was in the service of others. One that had over thirty years of dedicated service to the Tenafly community.

Along with thirty years in the ranks of the Tenafly Police Department, Canty was also a Tenafly Volunteer Firefighter for decades. Additionally, he helped in founding the Tenafly Volunteer Ambulance Corps. Further still, he volunteered time in assisting with disaster and hurricane relief.

Canty formed an array of friendships through his many years of service; particularly with our brothers and sisters in Englewood PD/FD. Fostering these relationships was something he maintained as a rider, member, and constant supporter of the Unity Tour Ch. 37 (now Law Enforcement United Ch. 37). Canty understood the importance of commradere that the ride represented, the honor and recognition it gives to those who have fallen, and the support it provides the families.

We offer our condolences to his family and friends. May he rest in peace. Canty was also someone who knew how to have a good time when the opportunity arose and enjoy life. Plus, he'd hate for this to end on a solemn note, so instead I'll offer this: Cheers Canty, to the good times and fond memories!
