Today we stop and remember the ones who didn't come home. To every Gold Star family out there — thank you doesn't cover it, but we mean it with everything we've got.

I killed my first bonsai. Watered it wrong, didn't understand the light, rushed the trimming. Six months in, it was dead.

I'm starting over with this one. I know the process now and I've learned a lot about what it needs at each stage (thanks youtube).

Taking care of a bonsai, or any plant for that matter, teaches you something valuable: there are no shortcuts to doing something right. You either take your time and get it, or you rush and you fail. I think about that a lot.
