Cha Fun Fact 8️⃣ These past few weeks have been filled with fun facts about Cha Community as we celebrate 8 years of business this week! We started up our business exactly 8 years ago today! 🙌
Did you know Cha Community is more than just tea and dumplings? In the past 8 years, Cha has given back to more than 35+ nonprofit organizations, grassroots, student organizations, & philantrophy efforts! 🧧 This doesn’t include all the in-kind donations or raffle/product donations we’ve also given back to local schools, organizations, and groups!
Our Cha Community co-owners have supported the community by serving actively on local non-profit boards including Waco Downtown Farmer's Market and Keep Waco Beautiful and co-founding Asian Leaders Network - Waco nonprofit in to highlight cultural festivals and celebrations like Lunar New Year and Diwali each year in community with fellow Asian leaders & volunteers! 🎉🎉
Our storefront cafe spaces regularly host gatherings and community events like our bi-annual BIPOC and women makers markets, Waco Pride Network’s monthly Q***r Coffee, Sunday afternoon Temple Go Club meet-ups, Checkmate Waco Chess Club gatherings, community Profit Shares, Asian Leaders Network mixers, and more! 💪
Cha Community - while a business about tea and dumplings - is more than just food and drinks! We’re able to give back to our local community through a variety of ways as a result of y’all’s support! Cheers to 8 years and many more to come! 🤝

Cha Community is Taiwanese-owned, and Taiwan is the birthplace of modern bubble tea aka boba tea. The tapioca boba or pearls we serve are from Taiwan and made from tapioca starch - which is made from cassava root.
The mountainous terrain in Taiwan also cultivates refreshing oolong tea and many varieties of teas - making it a beautiful island for boba tea to originate from! Many of our loose leaf teas come from either Taiwan, China, Japan, or India. And we are proud to be the only independent Taiwanese-owned boba tea cafe in Waco and Temple, TX!
Stay tuned for our new Taiwanese-inspired drink line coming out soon for our 8 year business anniversary/bday! A lil preview is included below. 🌱🍃🙌

Cha Fun Fact 5 - Freshly cooked tapioca pearls take hours of prep each day and have a limited freshness window - that’s why delicious boba isn’t as simple as opening a bag or microwaving instant boba pearls. 🧋🥰
No microwaving boba at our cafes! Our team members cook fresh tapioca boba daily and prep our boba pearls in our housemade sugar syrups! Truly worth the wait! 🧋🤝✨

Fun Cha Fact 4️⃣ Real Ingredients - We use real loose leaf tea in our boba teas and drinks - never artificial powders, creamers, or concentrates. And as a result, the fresh taste makes all the difference! From housemade fruit purees to syrup made from organic cane sugar, we make many of our food and drinks in-house and are proud to offer plant-based + customization options on our menu! 🧋🍃🤝

Cha Fun Fact 3️⃣ - Did you know we did not offer pan-fried dumplings or food on our menu at our downtown cafes and food truck until the COVID-19 pandemic? 🥟✨
It was in the midst of the pandemic that we launched food at our business - originally as Waco Bao - to increase business revenue. Bao means to fold in Chinese and we were excited to hand-fold each and every dumpling. Thankfully we’ve upgraded our equipment since then to increase our housemade dumpling capacity! 💪✨
Our housemade dumplings and food options remind us of the importance of preserving cultural traditions and recipes - especially in communities in Central Texas where less than 2-3% of of the population is Asian. 🏮🤝🥟

Cha Fun Fact 2: Our name means tea! We started up originally as Waco Cha in 2018 and rebranded to Cha Community in 2021. Cha means tea in Chinese and is the Chinese character at the center of our logo. Did you know tea originates from China? We’re proud to pay homage to these Chinese cultural roots through our small business name!
