Tonight's class focused on depolying knives under stress, including transitions to counter blade or empty handed tehcniques when the draw is not fast enough. Many people carry tools for personal protection, not everyone trains to get to those tools when they need them. This is a core principle of martial blade concepts, part of the logic that makes it so effective for self-defense.

From class tonight: situations change when your back is literally against a wall. To my knowledge, there are reliable statistics on the environments present during assaults, but it stands to reason that nobody will attack you in a circumstance you can easily leave. Being able to fight in a confined space is a must have skill for any practical self-defense.

Using realistic attacks, learning to deal with an attacker before and while deploying a weapon, and then knowing how to respond with a weapon if appropriate. It is a lot of skills to pack into one drill, but done right, it allows for a lot of learning in one short class session. Last night was great, thanks to everyone that joined.

Big group at the Martial Blade Concepts self-defense class last week, so went back to the beginning. Counting to 4 while swinging a knife, also called largo mano. Fun was had by all.

Learning the mbc passing drill, because nobody wants to get stabbed for real.
Also, Eric Mayes is in town next week, message me if you want training.

Self-defense and personal protection apply to everyone. As my instructor, Mike Janich has recently reminded me: what you lack in physical attributes can be made up in attitude, tools, and skills. We do a monthly class in wheelchair user self-preservation with The Next Step Peer Mentoring. Last weekend's class had great turnout overall, but it would be great if we could get some additional attackers to join us. If you are in the Phoenix area and available to help at our next class, April 24th, please let us know.

This photo is from class a couple weeks ago, learning the high angle 5 hubud "armpit on a stick" defensive response. Last night, we enjoyed the fun and crucial counter blade techniques from Mike's infamous CBC system. Class every Thursday, be there.

Low line angle 5 hubud applications from last week. A simple, effective way to not get stabbed in the gut. We are off for the holidays, but back at it on the 7th. Be there.
