The FTC has implemented a new rule requiring full disclosure of all fees in the pricing of hotels, vacation rentals, and event tickets. This rule, aimed at eliminating hidden “junk fees,” mandates that any additional charges such as service, resort, or convenience fees be included in the advertised prices to prevent consumers from being caught off-guard at the point of payment. This regulation ensures that all mandatory fees are displayed prominently, facilitating easier price comparison for consumers.

The rule, however, does not prohibit the charging of these fees but insists on upfront disclosure, including shipping or tax costs that are not included in the initial advertised price. The FTC estimates that this will save consumers millions of hours annually that would otherwise be spent uncovering the true costs of services.
