Your Health Is Your Foundation Your mind and body are the multiplier for everything you do. If that multiplier is weak… Your results will be weak. Most people don’t get that. They think they can "grind" for 16 hours a day… Eat garbage… Skip their workouts… Ignore their mental state… …and somehow still expect to oper...

The argument on hitting multiple PRs a week, if not every session, is simple: It means you’re progressing.
You don’t have to die on the sword. I could’ve gone past 205 today. But it was a PR and I knew it was in the 85-95% of what I got. Strength displayed = strength gained.
It goes way deeper for me, though. After retiring from the USMC, life got a lot different. Wife is still my soulmate. Kids still make up the rest of my world. But for a lot of reasons, I let my identity outside of my family slip away.
It’s a long story. Way longer than an IG caption. Where this caption does land, though, is a means to me is I fought back and won today. Something I was excellent at for twenty years and a skill I let degrade — as well as my health.
But today was another step and another day back in the right direction.

Put down my best 5K in two years this morning.
Rewind to 2017, my best ever, and it’s been quite the fall.
Like, seriously, I ran faster mile splits for 26.2 miles in 2017 than I did on this 3.11 mile run.
And that’s all ok. It took three years to get as fast as I was back then. So even if this would’ve been a “recovery, shakeout” run in 2017, it’s the best I had in this die on the sword I’m getting this damn time under 30 minutes effort.
Just like that, it was under 30 and down four minutes from the first effort I timed back in Sept, 2024.
A LOT has happened since I retired from the Marine Corps in 2023. I went the way of the dad bod.
I’m not trying to get on magazine covers, but it’d be cool if my shirts fit better.
And I can teach my kids it’s never too late to get out there and crush.

Great dialogue on the NSCA. The NSCA gives coaches the tools. The coach applies the "applicable" tools to the population. Every athlete is different. The program I write for high school basketball players will be different from the programming I do. It is also different for every tactical athlete as the movements will always be different. It is extremely different from my own individual training as a retired Marine, overweight, hypertensive, and high cholesterol possessing individual. My training as a veteran has been extremely different than when on active duty, especially considering the health issues I'm currently battling through (which were of my own doing). talked about how everyone segments into different camps which offer the "best training methods." There is no best training method. The science is the science. Use it as it fits to get the adaptation you are chasing. And remember, if you try to slap science in the face and say this camp or thing you believe in is a panacea and you will achieve miracles with it, be prepared to be slapped right back -- probably much harder than you trying to slap science.
Also sharing my latest Audible finish. Surprised I waited until after retirement to do this one. Getting the clean number back up, 2RM PR. And a banger from and .

Published in 1983, I bet this puppy flew off the shelves in its day.
Then reality happened.
Still, there is a recipe to cook eggs in there if anyone is interested

Not even the rain stops his spirit from wanting to play. One of my jobs as a parent is to make sure he never loses that. My job as a human is to never lose it either. So here I am at the park, in the rain, and am glad I’m here.

Totally took first overall in the Run for the Warriors 10k today. Weather was terrible and most of the fast people people probably stayed home. That’s cool. I’ll take the win. As says, “Keep showing up.” thanks for and all that crazy breathing stuff. It works.
