🎓 Heartfelt congratulations to all the 2026 graduates! 🎉

From Temecula CHP, we're proud of your hard work and excited for the bright futures ahead. Enjoy those graduation parties, celebrate with friends, soak up the summer sun — and make memories that last a lifetime (not headlines for the wrong reasons).

Drive smart and make smart decisions — especially this season. Sober grad nights are the way to go! Remember: car crashes remain the leading cause of death for teens in the U.S., with young drivers (16-19) facing crash rates nearly 4 times higher than older drivers per mile driven. And during prom/grad season, roughly one-third of alcohol-related teen traffic fatalities spike between April and June.

Don't turn your victory lap into a crash course in regret. Buckle up, skip the drinks behind the wheel, put the phone down, and keep those passenger numbers low (extra teens can quadruple the risk!). Your family, friends, and future self will thank you.

Safe travels, Class of 2026 — you've got this! 🚗💨

🚨 CHP Speed Enforcement: 104 mph in a 65 mph zone? That's not "making good time" — that's playing with fire. 🔥

We cited a driver doing 104 mph in a 65 mph zone. Yes, you read that right — nearly 40 mph over the limit. Here's the citation and the vehicle involved:

The facts:

●At 100+ mph, your stopping distance more than doubles compared to legal speeds. A hazard that appears 2 seconds away at 65 mph gives you less than 1 second at 104 mph.

●Crash energy (and injury risk) rises with the square of your speed — meaning a 104 mph impact is dramatically more devastating than one at 65 mph.

●NHTSA data shows speeding is a contributing factor in about 29% of all traffic fatalities nationwide. In California, it’s even higher in many areas. One bad decision at triple-digit speeds can end lives — yours, your passengers', or an innocent family's in seconds.

We appreciate the vast majority of safe drivers out there. But for the lead-foot crowd: slow down, arrive alive.

Proper car seat use reduces the risk of fatal injury by 71% for infants and 54% for toddlers (ages 1-4) in passenger vehicles. Yet studies show nearly half of car seats are installed incorrectly – don’t let yours be one of them.

🚨 Solo Crash in Temecula Area – Driver Walked Away with Minor Injuries, But That Tow Bill is Gonna Sting!

The heavy-duty tow crew had to hoist this overturned vehicle over a fence after the driver veered off and flipped it. One lucky motorist with only minor injuries – but the repair and recovery costs are about to leave a much bigger mark.

Single-vehicle crashes make up about 52% of motor vehicle crash deaths nationwide. Many are preventable and often tied to distracted driving, speeding, drowsy/fatigued driving, or inattention.

Quick facts to keep in mind:

●Distracted driving contributes to thousands of crashes yearly.
●Drowsy driving leads to an estimated 91,000 police-reported crashes annually, often single-vehicle run-offs with no braking.
●Towing after a crash? Expect hundreds to thousands depending on the recovery complexity – heavy-duty lifts, fence damage, and storage add up fast.

Drive like your wallet (and life) depends on it – because it does. Stay alert, eyes on the road, pull over if you're tired, and avoid distractions.

Safe travels, everyone!

🚨 CHP Safety Alert: Don't "Sleep" on Bad Decisions! 😴🚛

Early this morning, CHP officers responded to a truck stopped dead in the slow lane on a busy freeway. The driver? Out of gas... out of excuses... and apparently out of sobriety.

After running out of fuel, he simply decided to pull over (sort of), block traffic, and catch some Z's. Officers arrested him for DUI. His truck was impounded, and thankfully, no one was hurt by this dangerous action.

Fact: In California, DUI crashes injure or kill someone every single day. According to the latest data, alcohol-impaired driving causes about 1,000 deaths annually on our roads. That's completely preventable.

Pro Tip with a side of reality check: Running out of gas is annoying. Driving drunk is criminal. Falling asleep in the slow lane? That's how tragedies happen. Pull over safely before you become a hazard – and always designate a sober driver or call a ride.

Drive sober. Drive alert. Drive like your family (and everyone else's) is counting on you.

🚨 Quick Update from Temecula CHP 🚨

Just in case you were wondering why traffic on I-15 Northbound around Rainbow Valley Blvd was a total nightmare today... blame the vehicle fire that turned part of the hillside into an impromptu bonfire! 🔥🚛

Only the fast lane stayed open while crews knocked it down. Thanks to the lightning-fast response from our emergency personnel (Cal Fire, local FD, and CHP), the fire was contained quickly before it could spread further.

Fun fact: Vehicle fires along Southern California freeways spark an average of 200+ hillside incidents yearly during dry seasons — always carry a fire extinguisher and keep your rig maintained, folks!

Drive safe out there, Temecula. And remember: slow is smooth, smooth is fast... especially when the hill's on fire. 😏

🚨 DUI Crash Sends Astrovan into a Tree – Driver Arrested 🚨

Early this morning, a solo driver in an Astrovan decided that "straight" was optional and wrapped the front end around a tree. Major front-end damage, major injuries for the driver, and luckily no passengers.

The driver was transported for medical treatment... where he was placed under arrest for DUI.

Facts don't lie: In California, DUI crashes injure or kill someone every single day. Impaired driving is 100% preventable – yet it still accounts for roughly 30% of all traffic fatalities nationwide. Don't be a statistic.

Drive sober. Arrive alive.

🚨 CHP Alert: These Drivers Learned the Hard Way – Slow Down or Pay the Price! 🚨

Folks, we've got the receipts. 📸

Attached: Two speeding citations from California highways – one driver clocked at 100 MPH in a 70 MPH zone, and another pushing 123 MPH in the same 70 MPH limit. That's not "making good time" – that's playing Russian roulette with your life and everyone else's.

Every extra 10 MPH roughly doubles your risk of a fatal crash. At 120+ MPH, your reaction time shrinks to almost nothing, stopping distances explode, and a small mistake becomes a headline. Speeding doesn't just cost you a fat ticket and possible license suspension – it can cost everything.

🚨 CHP TRAFFIC ALERT – SR-74 (Ortega Hwy) 🚨

ALL LANES NOW OPEN!!!!

SR-74 (Ortega Highway) is currently CLOSED in BOTH directions at South Main Divide while crews safely remove empty gas cylinders from the roadway.

⏱️ Expected closure: Approximately 45 minutes to 1 hour.

Alternate routes are strongly recommended. Please use caution and check real-time traffic apps if you're in the area.

Safety Note: Debris like this on the road is no joke — according to the Federal Highway Administration, roadway debris contributes to over 50,000 crashes annually in the U.S. Even "empty" cylinders can create serious hazards if they shift or rupture. Thanks to our crews for clearing it quickly!

Drive safe, stay alert, and give workers room to do their job.

This class is designed specifically for drivers aged 65 and older. It helps senior drivers continue driving safely by covering age-related changes (like vision, reaction time, and medication effects), updated rules of the road, self-assessment tools, and practical safety techniques.

Fun fact with stats: According to NHTSA data, while older drivers (65+) drive fewer miles, they have a higher fatality risk per mile traveled due to increased frailty — but programs like this one can make a real difference by boosting awareness and confidence behind the wheel. Knowledge really is power (and safer roads)!
