Light moments like these help alleviate some of the heaviness of the brokenness.

April 3rd: These kids are peeking out just before the feeding. They are wondering, “What are those Mzungus doing?” “Mzungu” means “white person, or ghost.” One of the kids was terrified of Benji, and it was cute and funny. Benji tried to hold his hand, but the child ran away crying. The staff told the child, “He’s a person, just like you and me!”

Our CEO, Byron, and two others are in Malawi. Here's what was accomplished today:

"At 5am we headed to the Mangochi district, winding through a downpour, then along the border of Mozambique. It was so beautiful seeing the hills and the lush greenery, and it was really cool to drive along a road that had Malawi on one side and Mozambique on the other.

The next part of our road trip was through a steep hill with a narrow road that snaked back and forth. The view was spectacular. It look almost two hours to get there because of all the potholes, people on bikes, and an occasional crowd of cows that would meander along the road.

We first visited a childcare center with about 44 children, called Songa 3. The kids were so cute and shy at first. They sang a welcome song and then each childcare worker introduced themself. Lots of gratitude for our partnership. Basically the meal we help provide is full of rice, shoya beans, and corn. They tell me it’s nutritious and that the kids are gaining weight. Benji and I helped served bowls and then sat with the kids. They were still shy until we pulled our phone cameras out, then we got swarmed with smiles and giggles.

I also got to speak to a high school class nearby. I challenged them to work hard at studying and spend as much time as possible in God's word. The speaking engagement was pretty informal, and I didn't know that I was even going to the class until we were there. One of the boys in the class gave us a warm “bro” handshake. The class laughed and thought it was cool that he called us “friend.”

There’s a strong language barrier, so the staff helped translate for me. They were all super grateful for MTC’s support. In fact, they were all wearing shorts that included each of our logos to represent the partnership.

Then we went to a second childcare center and got to participate in the kids club that happens once a week in the afternoon. There was a huge circle, I'd guess 50-60 kids moving around and around. Kids were quoting Scriptures and singing with tons of energy.

Tomorrow we’re going to have a rest day. It takes a long time to drive anywhere, so we’re wiped. "
