The Telluride Fire Protection District serves the region and its visitors with its highly trained career and volunteer staff.

Established in 1967, the Telluride Fire Protection District covers 390 square miles of mountainous terrain, encompasing the historic town of Telluride, the Town of Mountain Village, multiple bedroom communities, and the Telluride Ski Resort. Our Volunteer firefighters have been serving this community since 1878 when gold mining was the primary choice of occupation. Today with our highly trained Fire and EMS personnel, we continue to serve this community with its ever growing needs.

From Telluride Fire District Chief John Bennett:
“I’m so impressed that so many of our agencies came together to respond, with no hesitation and with incredible teamwork and professionalism to execute this challenging rescue. I’ll always appreciate how our community comes together to respond to emergencies like this one that requires so many different skill sets.”

Telluride Fire personnel trained Monday on “forceable entry” techniques. In a fire or EMS emergency where first responders need to but cannot gain access into a structure, forced entry may be necessary. This step, though a last resort, may mean breaking a window or breaching a door. Safety is our first priority for you and our crew, and all efforts are made to protect property. However, sometimes forced entry is required to protect and even save lives. Rest assured, Telluride Fire will be there for your emergency, and if forceable entry is required, we’re trained and ready to do so.
