Temple Emeth's Annual Pride Shabbat will be held on Friday, June 12 at 8:00 pm.

In addition to special readings by members of the congregation, Josh Kohane will serve as our cantorial soloist.

Over 50 years ago, one mother decided to openly tell the world that she supported and loved her gay son. This act instigated the formation of PFLAG - Parents and Friends of Le****ns and G**s. Our Pride Shabbat speaker will be Philip Calabro, an educator and artist, who works as PFLAG NYC Program Coordinator for Community Education and Outreach. He/She is also part of PFLAG's Safe Schools team, working with students on grades K-12. Philip will speak about allyship and ways to support the LGBTQ community.

Tonight at 7:30 pm is Temple Emeth's last Family Shabbat Service of the spring. We will hear from our children's choir, Etz Chayim, and offer a birthday blessing at the Ark. Meryl and Ivis Recinos will receive an aliyah and a blessing in honor of their wedding anniversary. Following the service, everyone is invited to our new back driveway for a campfire and s’mores to celebrate the beginning of summer.

At 10:30 am on Saturday morning, we will begin our Shabbat Morning Service in the Sanctuary. Cantor Dubinsky and Rabbi Sirbu will lead the prayers, and Rabbi Sirbu will chant from Parashat B’ha’alotecha.

Join Temple Emeth on Sunday, June 14 at 10:30 am for "Kosher Jazz: A Narrated Performance" with Matt Chertkoff.

Internationally respected jazz guitarist Matt Chertkoff casts some of the most recognizable Jewish melodies of all time as jazz. He takes liturgical songs, horas, Israeli songs, and secular tunes that speak to the Jewish experience and merges them with different jazz grooves while staying true to the original melodies. His performance is narrated as Matt explains his influences, techniques, and the history of the music. Matt will be presenting a program about Jewish composers and their music. He will talk about select composers and then interpret their music in his own inimitable style.

Advanced registration is required. Cost is $10 if registered by June 7; $15 at the door. Register online at https://www.emeth.org/event/kosherjazz or call the Temple office at 201-833-1322.
