Women’s History Month Continues — Celebrating the Women Who Shaped Our Community with Love

As we continue honoring Women’s History Month extended through Mother’s Day, we take time to remember the women whose lives were rooted in family and faith. Today, we celebrate a woman whose greatest joy—and greatest legacy—was the love she shared with those around her.

BIO - Senaida Botello Martinez
June 5, 1928 – September 7, 2022

Senaida Botello Martinez’s story begins in Hondo, where she was born to Jose and Juanita Botello. As a young girl, she traveled across parts of the country with her family, working alongside them as migrant farm laborers. It was a life that required resilience and determination—qualities she carried with her throughout her life. She would later laugh as she told stories of those days, proudly recalling how she could out pick just about anyone in her family in the cotton fields.

Eventually, her family made their home in Taylor, where her life truly began to take root. Here, she married Thomas Ramirez Martinez on November 8, 1958. Together, they built a life centered on love, faith, and family, raising six children and sharing nearly four decades of marriage.

Senaida was a woman who found purpose in caring for others. Her home was a place of warmth—filled with good food, strong values, and steady guidance. She made sure her children grew up with respect, education, and a strong work ethic, leading by example in all she did. Her faith was also an important part of her life, and she remained devoted to her church and her community.

She found happiness in simple, meaningful ways—tending to her plants and flowers, caring for her birds, enjoying her favorite telenovelas, and spending time visiting with family and friends. Whether it was over a cup of coffee or a shared story, Senaida had a way of making people feel welcome and valued.

To her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, she was lovingly known as “Momo,” a name that soon extended beyond her immediate family. In time, many in the Taylor community came to know her by that same affectionate nickname. It suited her well—because to know her was to feel cared for.

Those who knew Senaida often remember her as gentle, kind, and always smiling. She lived a life full of love, connection, and joy—never seeking recognition, but leaving a lasting impact all the same.

She now rests in Taylor beside her beloved husband, and her memory lives on through a large and loving family, as well as many friends whose lives were made brighter by her presence.

In remembering Senaida Botello Martinez, we honor the women whose lives remind us that the truest measure of success is love—given freely, shared often, and carried forward through generations.
