This is due to the winding down of the produce season in Florida, prompting carriers to seek opportunities in larger northern markets. The USDA reported a shortage of re**er trucks in Lakeland last week.

Loads from Lakeland to the Northeast, specifically Boston, New York, and Philadelphia, have seen the tightest capacity, with recent loads to Boston paying upwards of $4,000. Northbound loading opportunities will persist for several weeks, particularly for carriers who can capitalize on the 4% decrease in inbound volumes over the last month, which has contributed to reduced available capacity in Lakeland. With Florida's main watermelon season extending through July, Lakeland is a market to monitor closely in the weeks leading up to Independence Day.
