🎨✨ We Are the Impressionists! ✨🎨

This summer, our young artists from Jackson Heights NFL Youth Education Center stepped into the creative worlds of Claude Monet and Vincent van Gogh! 🌻🪷🌌

Throughout our Impressionism program, students explored how these renowned artists used bold colors, movement, and light to capture the world around them. Then, our young artists created their own masterpieces inspired by Monet’s Water Lilies and Van Gogh’s The Starry Night which they’ll be gifting to someone they love! 🖍️🎨💙

¡Bienvenidos a la República Dominicana! 🇩🇴✨ Pt. 2

One of our favorite projects was learning about Muñecas Limé! Beautiful handcrafted Dominican dolls that have become a symbol of the country’s culture and creativity. 💙❤️

Our students discovered that these unique dolls traditionally have no facial features, representing that the people of the Dominican Republic come from many different backgrounds, cultures, and traditions. Together, they symbolize unity, diversity, and the beauty of every community. ✌🏽

Inspired by this tradition, each student designed and made their own Muñeca Limé, creating a one-of-a-kind work of art to celebrate Dominican culture through creativity and self-expression. 🎨🇩🇴

¡Bienvenidos a la República Dominicana! 🇩🇴✨ Pt. 1

🤟🏽Our students had an incredible time exploring Dominican culture this summer with our amazing partners ReDefiners World Languages ! ❤️💙

🪨We learned all about Las Caritas—ancient cave carvings created by the Taíno people over 800 years ago. These fascinating faces and symbols expressed emotions, stories, and identity. Inspired by their history, our students created their own Las Caritas to celebrate their unique personalities and creativity! 🎨

We also discovered the beautiful Bayahíbe Rose, the national flower of the Dominican Republic. This unique cactus flower grows naturally only in the Dominican Republic and is a wonderful symbol of the country’s rich natural beauty. 🌺

This was just the beginning of an unforgettable cultural journey filled with art, history, nature, and imagination.

😃 There’s just something about playing the ukulele that brings a smile to our faces! 🤟🏽

🤙🏽 During our recent beginner series at Kenly Park our students learned about the popularity of the ukulele in Hawaii 🌸, including the historic rendition of Israel Kakawiwo’ole’s “Somewhere of the Rainbow 🌈” Plus, along the way, we learned multiple chords shapes and how to sing and play over 5 songs! 👏🏽

💪🏽 All of our students have earned their own ukulele and have become musical mentors to our new incoming bandmates! We are so proud!! 💙

Through Ms. Sara’s Sound Exploration & Expression program, we learned how to tap into our creative flow state and discover why sounds have such a powerful effect on how we feel. 🎶
