Garfield Center Building
The Garfield Center Building as been the heart of historic Parkland, Washington since 1948, on the corner of Garfield and ‘C’ Streets north of Tacoma.
Built by the Gratias family in 1948, in conjunction with Pacific Lutheran University to accommodate the growing student population, it remained in the family until 1994 when it was sold to Joe Thomas. 10-02-22 A pleasant evening was had behind 406-10 Garfield Street in remembrance of Tom Payne who lived across the street in the Garfield Center Building from 2007-17. His office was 410 Garfield where he died on October 1, 2017. Photo is of his grandson by the huge head of Tom painted in the of the 406-410 building.

One of Garfield Streets favorite charactors has died. Tom Payne passed peacefully while sleeping Sunday 10-1-17 at 6:10pm at his "home" (ie office) surrounded by friends and family. An "non-cerimonial" gathering will take place Friday, 10-06-17 at his office at 410 Garfield Street from 5pm to sunset. All who knew him on Garfield Street are welcome. b.y.o.b as well as snacks. RIP Tom you are greatly missed.

Feb 2015, small airy space for rent? An unknown camper took up residence behind our dumpster with items waiting to get disposed off. Note the coffee maker. Who every it was, they are gone now but this isn't the first time some has camped behind 'old stinky'.
