Teamsters Local 317 representing workers in the private & public sector

06/20/2026

Our very own Teamsters Local 317 KIRK MAXAM was invited to speak on the subject of striking, alongside multiple other brothers and sisters of our Union, who were also forced out on strike.

Through the leadership of Sean O'Brien Tom Erickson coordinated bargaining from Teamsters Local 104, LOCAL 317, and Teamsters Local Union 653 workers brought corporate conglomerate Sysco to its knees when giant concessions and slap in the face proposals were given to Local Unions, forcing workers to the streets.

The stage has been set moving forward, Sysco and any other employer knows, whether it be Borg Warner, UPS, DHL, First Student, Airgas or anyone else, you back Teamsters against a wall, we will see you in the streets!

Great job Kirk !

Delegates gathered and passed resolutions to protect, improve, and preserve all of our core industries, whether it be Pipe Line, Construction, Trucking, Carhaul, Package, Distribution, Rail, Air, and multiple other industries including both private and public sectors - making certain we build bridges between political parties and reminding them that they do not get a dime from us, or any backing, unless they they pass legislation that protects workers!

Teamsters represent workers!

We are taking on Automation and Artificial Intelligence;

We are taking on the Gig Economy;

We are taking on income inequality & Corporate greed;

We are taking on bad business models of sub contracting work such as UPS Roadies and Amazon’s DSP model of misleading and misclassification of workers;

We are AGAINST the erosion of good working class jobs, and the profits over people and their families!

There is NO I TEAMSTERS, WE NEED TO STAND TOGETHER AND FIGHT TOGETHER!

As duly elected Local Union 317 Delegates, it’s been a privilege and an honor to represent our Membership at the thirty first International Brotherhood of Teamsters Convention;

We again have the STRONGEST leadership at the International that the Teamsters have had in decades who have been elected again, who support every Local Union at every moment;

Voting to pass multiple resolutions to establish our mark in Labor as the Teamsters, as well as making many changes to reflect the present in our constitution;

It is the privilege of a lifetime to serve our Members, to fight to improve their livelihoods, and continue to take on the fight against corporate greed, and the injustices against workers that they face;

It is the duty of our Leadership, and all our Members to continue to stand together in Solidarity, to help grow our Union through organizing efforts, and to never let anyone forget-

YOU DON’T MESS WITH THE TEAMSTERS!!!!

TEAMSTERS, DOJ FILE JOINT MOTION TO END FINAL ORDER AND CONSENT DECREE

Today, the International Brotherhood of Teamsters and the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York (the Southern District) jointly filed a motion to amend the Final Order and the Consent Decree, ending federal government monitorship of the union.

In 1989, the Southern District and the Teamsters entered into a consent decree to eliminate organized crime influence within the union and ensure fair, democratic, member-driven elections. Over the past 37 years, the Teamsters have conducted nine elections and successfully eliminated corrupt elements from the union.

Since the election of Sean M. O’Brien as Teamsters General President in 2021, the Teamsters have built a new system of rigorous checks and balances in which every member complaint is investigated, and when appropriate, referred to legal authorities.

“Today marks a new era in the Teamsters. After 37 years, this filing marks an end to the longest monitorship of any union, corporation, nonprofit, or public entity in the history of the United States. Over the past four years, we have developed a system of internal controls and created a culture of vigilance in our union. Our efforts have proven that we can police our own, and the controls we have put in place are more stringent than any labor organization in the country,” said Teamsters General President Sean M. O’Brien.

The motion requires approval by the Federal District Court and the Honorable Loretta Preska, who has overseen the consent decree monitorships since 2002.

Earlier this year, the Honorable Barbara Jones (ret.), the Independent Review Officer, conducted an assessment of the International Union’s internal disciplinary systems and audit functions and concluded that the union has “developed the institutional tools, processes, and procedures necessary to adequately detect, investigate, and resolve instances of major corruption” and has the capacity to assume responsibility for internal processes.
