Hello everyone!
Just a reminder that the Jim Bean Safety Fair will be happening this Saturday at Sankey Park. Please BRING YOUR BIKE with you. Bicycle registration will be free at the fair, and the Bicycle Rodeo is a real good time! (No children or adults will be lassoed at the rodeo. Chaps not provided.)
ALSO, we will have free document shredding at the SHPD parking lot. If you're not sure what to do with all the junk mail and those Costco receipts from 2020, bring 'em on by. They're no match for the shredder provided by 44 North Credit Union.

Tomorrow, June 4th, 2026, at 7 PM, will be the annual Senior Parade. SHPD Officers will help direct traffic as the parade proceeds down Long Street and through the avenues back to the High School. Traffic interruptions are likely during the parade. Please be patient as we help celebrate the class of 2026's huge accomplishments.

Sweet Home, Dumpster Days are back!
This is your chance to clean up your property without paying for a dumpster. June 22nd- 25th we will have dumpsters available behind City Hall located at 3225 Main Street from 8 AM to 1 PM daily (unless the dumpster fills up before that). This year, dumpsters will be located behind the building and there will be signage to direct you.
You MUST unload all of your own garbage and throw it in the dumpster yourself. Help will not be available to assist you, so please plan ahead and bring your own help if needed. Again, we will NOT be able to help you unload so please only bring what you can unload yourself, or bring appropriate help. Anyone leaving trash on the ground or outside the authorized receptacles will be cited. This is a FREE event so please be respectful of the requirements!
City and Code Enforcement staff will be present to check you in before you unload your garbage. You MUST live inside of Sweet Home city limits to participate. A valid ID must be provided to prove the residency requirements. Any garbage that is spilled or accidentally thrown on the ground must be picked before you can leave. This is a free service offered to our residents, so please ensure that it can continue by keeping the area tidy and cleaning up after yourself. Dumpsters will be removed from the site nightly and replaced every morning.
Last year this was very popular. Please be patient and stay in a single file line and do not block traffic. We will get you in and out as quickly as possible. This is a first-come, first-served service so if we reach capacity before 1 PM, we will not be providing additional dumpsters for the day.
This is a great opportunity for anyone who is behind on spring cleaning, wanting to purge some stuff that seemed too expensive to take to the dump, or might be violating our city code about "open storage" in their yard and catching a little bit of a side-eye from their neighbor for that junked out lawnmower that's been sitting around a little too long... Please take advantage of this! We can't wait to see what you bring!

SHPD is so proud of Officer Leon Vineyard for successfully completing 4 months of police academy training at the Oregon Department of Public Safety Standards and Training. He’s worked hard to reach this milestone, and had his graduation ceremony today. Officer Vineyard is looking forward to starting field training back in Sweet Home, and so are we. Good work, Officer Vineyard! 🫡

We've all heard someone say, "Those aren't my pants," when they get arrested with something they shouldn't have in their pockets. But we've never heard anyone say they have a snake in their pocket......until today.
Senior Officer Potter made a warrant arrest, and that's exactly what the arrestee told him. Senior Officer Potter searched the pocket and confirmed that there was, in fact, a small live snake in there. We appreciate the heads-up about the pocket friend, but we would also appreciate it if people didn't walk around with snakes in their pockets if they have warrants.

On Friday, May 15th, 2026 at about 8 a.m., SHPD received a call from Sweet Home High School staff regarding a student having possibly brought a firearm onto campus. SHPD officers responded and the school was placed on lockdown. Officers and staff were able to locate the juvenile in class, but no suspicious items were immediately found. The school has since been released to resume normal operations.
Through further investigation, as well as cooperation from other students, officers found the item that was brought to school. It was located off campus, but nearby, and was determined to be a realistic looking air-soft style pistol (essentially a toy that uses air to propel plastic bb’s).
The Sweet Home School District is addressing the issue with the student and their family at this time. If anyone has information that may be helpful to this case, we encourage you to contact the investigating officer to have the information added to the investigation. Senior Officer Sean Potter is the primary investigator on this case, and can be reached by calling the non-emergency line: 541-367-5181. Case number for reference is 202603313.
