EXCITING NEWS: HB 1766 VETOED!
We are so grateful to everyone who spoke up. Your advocacy for animals, including calls and emails, helped make a real impact and contributed to Governor Kelly Ayotte’s decision to veto HB 1766.
This bill raised serious concerns for animal welfare, including limiting the ability of trained humane professionals to assist in cruelty investigations and reducing safe options for animals in crisis. Your voices helped ensure those concerns were heard.
We also thank Governor Ayotte for her decision and for recognizing the impact this legislation could have on animals and public safety. In her veto statement, she shared:
“It’s important that we protect livestock owners’ due process rights and ensure fair treatment under the law. However, HB 1766 would hinder the ability of local law enforcement, veterinarians, and animal welfare professionals to respond to cases involving neglect and abuse of animals. By centralizing power with the State, this bill would increase the size of state government, cost taxpayers more money, increase animals’ pain and suffering, and lead to forced euthanasia of abused but otherwise healthy animals.”
Thank you for your commitment to New Hampshire's animals, the people who care for them, and the organizations dedicated to their protection. ❤️🧡🩵

PET OF THE WEEK
Kitty
Female | Domestic Medium Hair | Orange | 8 years 1 Month Old |
Kitty is a smart, independent cat who enjoys being near her people while still valuing her personal space. She loves lounging nearby while you work, read, or relax, offering quiet companionship throughout the day. Kitty isn't overly demanding of attention and prefers affection on her own terms, greeting her favorite people with adorable little chirps. She feels most comfortable in a calm home and prefers to keep all four paws on the ground rather than being picked up.
Kitty would be a wonderful match for someone who appreciates a cat with a gentle, independent personality and plenty of charm. She would do best with older, respectful children. Although she hasn't lived with other animals before, she may do well with calm, older pets who are happy to give her space.
Come meet her during our open hours, Thursday-Sunday from 11-3. June 15, 2026.

🐾 Happy Tails: Charles Edward (Now Fergus) 🐾
Charles Edward is now Fergus (aka Gus Gus, Fergalious, and Fergster)!
This handsome boy has settled into his new home beautifully and has quickly shown off his playful personality. His favorite hobby seems to be 4 a.m. parkour sessions, racing around the house at full speed and taking corners a little too enthusiastically.
When he's ready to slow down, Fergus loves curling up between his human's feet for a nap or sitting on his perch to watch the neighborhood go by.
He is such a sweet cat and already very loved. We are so excited for you Fergus! 💕
