Red Cross offers free smoke detectors in Keene area next month If you’re a homeowner in Keene or surrounding towns, you can receive free smoke detectors courtesy of the American Red Cross next month.

Spring is almost here and NH black bears are starting to emerge from their dens!
This past winter, the bears went into their dens in poor body conditions due to unproductive natural food sources throughout 2018. Black bears are coming out of their dens with extremely depleted fat reserves. They will be very hungry and easily drawn to birdfeeders and other backyard food attractants such as unsecured barbeque grills and dumpsters.

People need to be extra vigilant and remove their birdfeeders and other food attractants, such as trash cans, to prevent bears from foraging in back yards. The New Hampshire Fish and Game Department recommends birdfeeders be taken down by April 1st in the North Country, and by March 15th in the southern part of the Granite State.
