Market Report 6.11.2026

🌾Market Update🌾
Production across the South is steadily increasing as Georgia and South Carolina ramp up their seasons, while Florida concludes its. Drier weather is now aiding harvest conditions after recent rainfall had previously slowed operations. Mexico continues to provide consistent volume across all border crossings, and California has begun shipping in a limited capacity.

⚠️Supply Pressure⚠️
Markets remain highly volatile, particularly for Iceberg, Romaine, and Green Leaf Lettuce, as disease pressure continues to reduce harvestable acreage. Demand is currently outpacing supply for several commodities. Artichokes, Anise/Fennel, Brussels Sprouts, Celery, Red Leaf, and Green Leaf have extremely limited supplies, with prorates expected on key leafy green items. Brussels Sprouts are anticipated to remain tight through July. Carrot supplies and quality have improved, with full relief expected within the next two weeks. Iceberg, Romaine, and Green Leaf coverage will be a significant factor for the remainder of this week and into next.

🍓Fruit Outlook🍓
Berry markets are generally stable, supported by Mexico and increasing California production. Strawberry supplies are gradually recovering from weather-related disruptions, while Blackberry, Raspberry, and Blueberry volumes remain strong. However, a potential transition gap between California and Pacific Northwest blueberry production could tighten supplies later this summer. Warm temperatures in Mexico continue to create some pressure on Blackberry size and firmness. Blueberries are a primary watch item due to declining Mexican production and the aforementioned transition gap, which are expected to tighten supplies and drive higher pricing.

🚛Freight Watch🚛
Limited truck availability and record-high fuel costs continue to place upward pressure on freight rates daily. Several transportation providers, including ocean carriers, are implementing fuel surcharges, which are increasing overall supply chain costs.

Market Alert: Melon Update 6.10.2026

The entire cantaloupe industry is experiencing a significant production shortfall resulting in a supply gap.

Unseasonably warm temperatures during February and March prevented the normal winter reduction of whitefly populations in the Yuma growing region. The warm weather also accelerated crop development, causing early fields to begin harvesting approximately two weeks ahead of schedule.

Elevated whitefly populations spread virus throughout later-planted fields, leading to widespread crop stress and failure. As a result, late-season fields are collapsing approximately two weeks earlier than expected, significantly reducing harvestable volume.

No meaningful harvests are expected during the weeks of June 15 and June 22, creating a temporary production gap until California production begins in late June.

Honeydews will be affected as well, but Mexican product is available and will help fill the gap over the next two to three weeks.

Orders will be prorated, and different sizes may be substituted to send as much product as possible.

Drier weather is helping improve harvest conditions after recent rainfall slowed production. Mexico continues to provide consistent volume across all border crossings, and California has started shipping in a limited capacity. Lime supplies are increasing as more fruit crosses the border, bringing some market relief, though larger sizes (175s and above) remain tight and substitutions may be necessary.

Looking ahead, a potential transition gap between California and Pacific Northwest blueberry production could tighten supplies later this summer.

🍈Melons & Citrus🍊
Citrus markets remain tight on smaller sizes across Lemons, Navels, and Valencias, with larger fruit dominating current supplies. California Valencias are beginning in limited volumes, while Meyer Lemon season is ending and import programs will begin this month. Import fruit may provide welcome relief as domestic sizing challenges continue.

Market Alert: The Garlic Company Garlic Supply Transition 5.28.2026

The Garlic Company is approaching the conclusion of its 2025-2026 garlic season. In line with previous years, a temporary reliance on Mexican garlic supply will be necessary before the new 2026 crop becomes available.

This transition period is forecasted to commence around the week of June 22nd and continue for approximately five weeks, concluding at the end of July. Market Alert: Force Majeure Declaration 5.27.2026

Mission and Westfalia Fruit are declaring Force Majeure given the current supply shortage and cost environment.

The situation in Mexico continues to worsen. Supply remains extremely limited, and costs continue to increase, with market prices at the border rising hourly. Continued market volatility should be expected throughout June as supply tightens further and competition for available fruit intensifies.

All growers and shippers are being impacted by this situation, which is outside of their control. Mission and Westfalia will continue working to pack as much fruit as possible to help keep program distributors supplied over the coming weeks; however, overall industry supply will not be sufficient to meet the very strong U.S. demand.

This is an unfortunate market environment, especially with the continued cost pressure from growers in Mexico, but they are doing everything possible to manage the situation as effectively as they can.
