Broward Center for the Performing Arts All Abilities Classes are open for registration. They provide dance and singing classes for ages 4-14 and 15+.

Parents and siblings are welcome to join for the entire hour. The parking, snacks (cookies), beverages (coffee, hot chocolate, water), and fidgets are all complimentary. Registration is only $15 for the entire family.

Getting back to school is exciting in many ways, but it can also spark anxiety in students, especially those with autism and other developmental challenges.

Here are a few tips from ability.com that can help ease the transition for you and your loved ones:

-Ask questions and remember to avoid telling your child to feel a certain way.

These can include:

What excites you about the upcoming school year?
What do you hope?
What do you dread?
How would YOU like to prepare?

Other tips:
-Visit the campus before school starts.
-Preview the route between classes and note landmarks for navigation
-Reach out to the 504 or IEP case manager, or school psychologist to introduce yourself.

Today marks the 34th anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act, a federal civil rights act that prohibits discrimination against individuals with disabilities in everyday activities. The ADA ensures that those with disabilities have the right to participate in government programs, be a part of the workforce, and purchase goods and services.

Disability Awareness Day aims to raise public awareness about disabilities and how they can vary from person to person. Since 1956, Arc Broward has worked hand-in-hand with our community, changing how people with developmental disabilities and life challenges are embraced and included.

Arc Broward operates at 9 locations and provides 21 programs throughout Broward County, Florida. The two social enterprises, Arc Educates and Arc Culinary are groundbreaking efforts to transform the community by providing opportunities for people with disabilities to realize their full potential. We believe that everyone deserves plentiful opportunities, especially those with disabilities and other life challenges.

Our July Provider Forum next Tuesday, July 16. Individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD) are significantly more susceptible to Alzheimer's disease and related dementias (ADRD), with a 50% higher likelihood compared to the general population and 90% of those with Down syndrome experiencing dementia by age 65.

Camp ABLE provides children with disabilities and behavioral challenges a place to thrive during the summer months. We provide stimulating experiences for our campers through fun and unique activities that foster social and mobility skills.

The past several weeks have been full of fun times and memories for our participants. These include our campus choo choo train, “aquatics day”, a petting zoo, hula dancers and much more!

C**ton celebrated his 9th birthday with an awesome Motor Mashup car and bike show! The birthday extravaganza took place at Alligator Alley Harley Davidson and raised nearly $900! Celebrating C**ton brought lots of people together while simultaneously raising money for our preschool program. Thanks C**t!

Meet BAC member, Randy Narkir, Esq., with Legacy Solutions Law Firm. Randy specializes in assisting parents of children with special needs in developing customized estate plans to secure their children's future, and guardianship and estate planning.

Randy joined the Arc Works Business Advisory Council (BAC) because he is passionate about supporting differently-abled individuals in the workplace, and he recognizes the mutual benefits for both the individuals and the community.
