Lasting change comes faster when you pursue a “being upgrade,” not just a “doing upgrade.”

A doing upgrade is “I wake up at 5 a.m.”
A being upgrade is “I’m a 5 a.m. person.”

The first turns every miss into a story: maybe I’m not disciplined.
The second treats misses as weather: off day, back to default tomorrow.

Identity makes the habit your home base, not your daily negotiation.

Balancing "Work That Produces Results" and "Work About Work"

Work can generally be split into two parts.
- Part A is the work that creates results and earns money.
- Part B involves managing the work in Part A, but doesn't directly produce results and make money.

Keep in mind, while Part B is needed, it alone won't get you paid. Imagine only providing updates on your work process without ever delivering results – you wouldn't earn anything! However, a balance between Parts A and B is essential.

Part A should always be a priority because it produces outcomes. This concept explains why people from big companies may struggle to adapt to startups. In larger firms, process becomes important as without good processes, it's impossible to scale.

In contrast, meaningful progress happens at startups when most attention goes towards work that's creating results with as minimal focus on managing tasks as necessary.

The magic of course is in finding the right balance.
