Are you participating in One Book, One Coast? We join 193 other libraries in reading George Takei's graphic memoir They Called Us Enemy and having discussions around the book, the forced removal and incarceration of Japanese Americans during World War II, and the significance of that history today.

Join us for book discussions, activities for kids, a documentary, and talks from people who lived in the prison camps, including a livestreamed conversation with George Takei. Register for one of the book groups to claim a free copy of the book to keep.

Throwback—far, far back. We recently rediscovered this newspaper clipping from 1974 featuring the Friends of the Sunnyvale Library. It reads:

"A bookworm's dream can come true Saturday, Sept. 21 when thousands of books go up for grabs at the eighth annual Friends of the Sunnyvale Library book sale. Sifting through crates of books are Corky Smader, co-chairwoman of the event, her daughter Diane, and Barbara Wallace. Proceeds from the sale, which starts at 9:30 a.m. in the library courtyard at 665 W. Olive ave., will go toward a scholarship."

So much has changed, and so much remains the same! Over fifty years later, book sales are now six times a year—plus our daily lobby sale and the occasional pop-up. They fund Library programs, including movie licenses and additional book copies for discussion groups. They continue to offer thousands of books, donated by community members or weeded from the Library's collection, which are evaluated, priced and organized by the hardworking volunteers who make up the Friends. Thank you to the Friends for decades of support! We couldn't do it without you.
