OLD FAST GLASS - Cinema Lens Rentals

Stunning work from director Ben Lalande and cinematographer Andy Woodward for RIMOWA — “De Passage.” They paired one of our ARRI SR3 kits with Canon 11-165mm T2.5 and Zeiss Zeiss Super Speed 9.5mm T1.3. Film stock was 250D and 50D. The results are some haunting, truly timeless images.

In Ben’s words, “There’s something I love about working with a 16mm camera locked on sticks with a slow zoom. It forces you to think in frames instead of coverage. Each shot becomes intentional, almost photographic, rather than constantly chasing moments with a handheld camera. Ironically, that restraint creates more creativity. When you limit yourself to one simple setup instead of cycling through dollies, gimbals, handheld rigs, and every other tool available, you become far more attentive to composition, movement, light, and timing. The tripod zoom setup also happens to be incredibly nimble for a project like this. It keeps the process stripped back, fast, and instinctive.

Beautiful work from cinematographer Sevag Chahinian working with director Anna Baumgarten for their film “BALLOON ANIMALS” which premiered at this year’s Sundance Film Festival. Sevag paired Alexa Mini LF (in S35 Mode) with our TLS rehoused 1960s Bausch & Lomb Super Baltar primes.

In the cinematographers words, “The Super Baltars were such a great complement to this project and the story because of the emotional texture they brought into the image. Their softer rendering and natural halation gave the grocery store a more intimate, human feeling while still carrying this underlying sense of familiarity that felt emotionally grounded and real. At the same time, the lower contrast, textured falloff, and imperfections in the glass introduced this subtle uneasiness beneath the image that constantly lingered throughout the frame. That balance really complemented the emotional contradictions at the center of the story and helped the world feel complex and emotionally lived in rather than overly polished, allowing moments of truth and comfort to exist within discomfort and uncertainty.”

NEW GEAR! Introducing the PETZVALUX 21mm T1.9. This is the widest, and wildest lens in the set, which now includes 21, 27, 38, 44, 55, 66, 80, and 120. The 21mm covers Full Frame/LF/VV sensors. These lenses date back to the 1960s, designed for the Olympus’“half frame” Pen F camera system, which used an image area similar to motion picture 35mm film. The results were lenses that were very fast, small, sharp, and absolutely beautiful. Bokeh is stunning. Flares are gorgeous. And performance will surprise you, especially coming from vintage high speed lenses.

These magnificent housings utilize GL Optics new cam focus system. Close focus is incredible. The full set covers Alexa 35 Open Gate. The first 3 focal lengths are th 42mm T1.4, 60mm T1.7, and 70mm T2.2, with many more ultra fast focal lengths on the way.
