When Ashley Swenson started Bodyscapes Salon & Beauty Spa in 2017, she was navigating a challenging chapter in her professional life. After dealing with negativity and bullying in her previous work environment, a flood forced her to stop and reevaluate where she was and what she wanted for her future.

Around that same time, she came across a sign with a message that hit her at exactly the right moment: 𝐭𝐚𝐤𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐫𝐨𝐜𝐤𝐬 𝐩𝐞𝐨𝐩𝐥𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐫𝐨𝐰 𝐚𝐭 𝐲𝐨𝐮, 𝐜𝐨𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐜𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐦, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐮𝐬𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐦 𝐭𝐨 𝐛𝐮𝐢𝐥𝐝 𝐚𝐧 𝐞𝐦𝐩𝐢𝐫𝐞.

For Ashley, it was quite literally a sign.

She decided to take a chance on herself and build something of her own. Nearly a decade later, the “empire” that began during one of the most difficult periods of her career is thriving in Sun Prairie as Bodyscapes Salon & Beauty Spa—a welcoming, head-to-toe destination where clients can relax, recharge and feel confident.

Originally launched in Madison before later relocating to Sun Prairie, Bodyscapes got its name from the idea of the human body as a vast landscape or blank canvas—from head to toe. Ashley began her career with a heavy focus on waxing and wanted a name that represented caring for and beautifying the entire body rather than limiting the business to one particular service.

As Bodyscapes evolved into a full-service salon and spa, that name became even more fitting.

“My goal was to bring talented independent professionals together under one roof and offer Sun Prairie a place that feels personal and comfortable,” Ashley explains.

Today, Bodyscapes brings together skilled local beauty and wellness professionals offering a wide variety of services. The team provides massage therapy, aesthetics and skincare, facials, dermaplaning, full-body waxing, hair services, nail services, eyelash extensions, lash lifts and tints, brow services, microblading, permanent makeup, makeup services and more.

Among the team are massage therapist Hollyann, aestheticians Alyssa and CiCi, hair stylists Jordyn and Molly, and nail technician Natalie. Bodyscapes is especially excited to introduce more clients to Hollyann for massage therapy, Natalie for nail services and CiCi for aesthetics as they continue building their clientele.

Personalization is at the heart of the Bodyscapes experience. Whether someone is seeking relief from muscle tension, customized skincare to combat Wisconsin’s changing seasons, precision brow services, waxing, nails, hair or eyelash extensions, the goal is never to give every client the exact same treatment.

Instead, the team listens to what each person actually needs and tailors the experience accordingly. From protecting the natural lash line during extensions to preserving the skin barrier during skincare treatments, technique, education and client comfort remain priorities.

What truly sets Bodyscapes apart, however, is the relationships that have developed inside the salon and spa. Clients often first discover the business through one service and eventually return for several others, with many continuing to visit for years.

For Ashley, those long-term relationships are some of the greatest measures of the business’s success.

Bodyscapes has also received recognition from the surrounding community, including being named a 𝐍𝐞𝐱𝐭𝐝𝐨𝐨𝐫 𝐍𝐞𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐛𝐨𝐫𝐡𝐨𝐨𝐝 𝐅𝐚𝐯𝐨𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐞 and receiving a 𝐓𝐚𝐥𝐤 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐓𝐨𝐰𝐧 𝐚𝐰𝐚𝐫𝐝. The business has also had the opportunity to be featured on television. While those accomplishments are exciting, Ashley says the reviews, referrals and continued support from clients are among the recognitions that mean the most.

“Having someone trust you enough to recommend you to their friends and family is one of the greatest compliments we can receive,” she says.

Sun Prairie itself has also become an important part of the Bodyscapes story. Even before moving the business there, Ashley and her family regularly came to Sun Prairie for shopping, groceries, restaurants and everyday activities.

She was drawn to the community because it offered something unique: the warmth and kindness of a smaller town while still providing many of the conveniences and amenities of a larger city. When the opportunity came to relocate Bodyscapes to Sun Prairie, it felt like a natural fit.

Outside the salon, Ashley has another side that may surprise some of her clients. She’s the lead vocalist for 𝐑𝐚𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐫-𝐗, a hard rock and metal project she created with her husband. Together, they perform live for an online community of more than 150,000 subscribers.

But when she’s at Bodyscapes, her attention returns to the business, her team and the clients who helped turn an idea born during a difficult time into something she never could have imagined back in 2017.

Looking back, Ashley says one of her greatest accomplishments isn’t simply opening a business—it’s what that business represents.

She took a negative experience and turned it into something positive.

That sign about collecting the rocks people throw at you and using them to build an empire became more than an inspirational quote. Nearly a decade later, Ashley can look around at the business she created, the professionals building their careers within it, and the clients who have supported Bodyscapes along the way and see that message brought to life.

And the business is still growing.

Ashley plans to continue supporting her team, expanding Bodyscapes’ offerings and introducing more members of the Sun Prairie community to the salon and spa.

Learn the basics of hands-only CPR and how to respond confidently in a cardiac emergency. This interactive session will cover how to recognize cardiac arrest, call for help, and perform effective chest compressions through demonstrations and hands-on practice.

No prior experience or appointments are needed. Drop in at your convenience between 10AM and 12PM for individual or small group training. This class is for educational awareness and does not provide CPR certification.

1. All individuals registering must have an account with us at cityofsunprairie.perfectmind.com. If you think you have an account, but cannot log-in, please do not add yourself again. Call the PRF Department office at (608)837-3449 and we will assist you.

2. If you do not have a Sun Prairie address, but live in the Sun Prairie School District, the system will not know that and will charge you Non-Resident rates. If you continue your registration and pay Non-Resident rates, the difference is non-refundable. Please contact our office prior to your registration so that we may adjust your account to reflect the proper designation.

3. If you accidentally register for the wrong program, do not immediately register for the correct program. Call us (608/837-3449) and we can make the transfer for you.
