🚦 A Reminder About Intersection Safety 🚦

The attached video shows a driver entering an intersection after the traffic signal had turned red, creating a dangerous situation and coming very close to a collision with another vehicle. With wet road conditions present, situations like this can become even more hazardous.

Intersections require every driver to do their part. Running a red light may seem like a minor decision in the moment, but it can have serious consequences for everyone on the road.

As a reminder:
🔴 A yellow light means prepare to stop when it is safe to do so—not speed up to make it through the intersection.
📵 Stay focused and avoid distractions while driving.
đźš— Slow down as you approach intersections and anticipate signal changes.
đź‘€ Always be alert for other vehicles, pedestrians, and cyclists.

This incident serves as a reminder that traffic signals are in place for everyone's safety. A few extra seconds of patience can help prevent a crash and keep our roads safer for all.

Each week, the Sun Prairie Police Department will share a snapshot of the calls for service and incidents our officers responded to in the community. This blotter provides an overview of arrests, investigations, and other noteworthy activity, but it does not include every call we handle. Our officers respond to hundreds of service requests each week—ranging from emergencies to routine assistance—and this summary is meant to give the public a sense of the variety of situations we encounter. By sharing these updates, we hope to keep our community informed, highlight the work being done each day, and strengthen the partnership between our department and the residents we serve.

đźš“ Click It or Ticket Results Are In! đźš“

During the recent 14-day Click It or Ticket enforcement campaign, Sun Prairie Police officers conducted 127 traffic stops to help keep our roadways safe. The good news? Officers encountered only 3 safety belt violations, showing that most drivers are making seat belt use a priority.

In addition to seat belt enforcement, officers issued citations for a variety of traffic violations (see graphic below), made 1 felony arrest and 1 misdemeanor arrest, and issued 111 written warnings.

While the Click It or Ticket campaign may be over, traffic safety remains a year-round focus. Every stop, warning, and citation is part of an ongoing effort to reduce crashes and keep our community safe.

Remember: Buckle up, put distractions away, obey traffic laws, and help make our roads safer for everyone.
