Sharpening another set of clipper blades for a local pet groomer. Grooming blades see a lot of use, and keeping them sharp helps with cutting performance, smoother grooming, and more consistent results.

Professional clipper blade sharpening is an important part of maintaining pet grooming equipment, especially for groomers who rely on their tools every day. These dog grooming clipper blades are being serviced to restore a clean cutting edge and help them perform the way they should.

This knife came in with a broken tip, so I ground the damaged section back and reshaped the blade into a K tip. The repair removed the damaged steel, restored a usable point, and gave the knife a slightly different profile without taking away more material than necessary.

Broken knife tips can often be repaired with careful grinding and reshaping, and this one was able to go back into service with a completely new tip profile.

Clipper blades take a beating over time. Hair, dirt, heat, and regular use slowly wear the cutting surfaces down until they start pulling, dragging, or just not cutting as cleanly as they used to. In this video, I’m showing part of the process I use to sharpen clipper blades and bring them back to a smooth, usable edge.

A good sharpening can make a big difference in how the blade performs and can save you from replacing blades that still have plenty of life left in them. This knife had a seriously chipped and uneven edge, so the goal was to straighten it out and make it usable again. Not a full restoration, but definitely a solid improvement.

There was some pretty severe pitting in the blade that I simply couldn’t grind past without removing too much material, so a few small chips remain where that pitting reaches the edge. It may not be perfect, but it’s straight, sharper, and slicing a whole lot better than when it came in.
