Western State Hospital cited and fined for failing to protect assaulted nurses 03/29/2019

Western State Hospital in the news, again. Mental health is not talked about enough. Since the 80s there has been a reduction in public commons dealing with people that need help in mental health. We have seen the bi-product of increased incarcerations, homelessness, and drug use. I have represented some workers who work in this field, who have worked at Western State Hospital. Attacks are common, severe, and tragic, but not surprising. The state needs to fund more treatment, it'd have a great positive impact on the social health in our community at large (it'd reduce the total number of people in suffering (utilitarian) and it is the right thing to do.

Western State Hospital cited and fined for failing to protect assaulted nurses Washington's largest state-run psychiatric hospital has been cited and fined for failing to protect workers from assaults by patients.

Not all battles are won on the first punch. I hung a picture in my office this week, and the quote rings true in life and litigation... "The world ain't all sunshine and rainbows. It's a very mean and nasty place, And I don't care how tough you are, It will beat you to your knees and keep you there permanently if you let it. You, me or nobody is going to hit as hard as life, But it aint how hard you get hit, it's about how hard you can get it and keep moving forward. How much you can take and keep moving forward. That's how winning is done." I thought some of you might have needed to hear that... I did.

Washington Casino Dealer Ordered to Repay $27K in Workers' Comp Scam 03/24/2016

So here is a story about worker comp fraud in Washington State, which is all fine and good, it happens. But, for every worker fraud case, there is a 1000 examples for an Employer lying in order NOT to pay benefits under the law. Seeing this story published, but no stories in the other direction should not bother me. I get it, the below story is not news because it is not news when a dog bites a man, it is news when a man bites a dog. Lets us never forget who makes the wealth for the companies, its the people who punches the clock, trades a young body for a used body, and gets things done because it is expected.

‘Love Your Lawyer Day’ Greeted With Affection and Objections There is no law that says you must celebrate Love Your Lawyer Day on Friday. And no one expects the occasion to become a federal holiday. WI Republicans Fast-tracking Bill that Effectively Kills Workers' Comp | The Progressive 10/28/2015

*This is scary enough for Halloween week.

A political party is passing a bill (guess which one) in another state is trying to pass a bill that would require a worker prove the employer is liable for the accident. If the worker proves negligence then they can recover the minuscule WC amount. HORRIBLE. While this is not in Washington State, its a heads up alert.

Here is the story just in time for Halloween:
