Formed in 1995, Speak Up Summit is a partnership of local community leaders, business owners and concerned citizens who believe that an excellent public school system is vital to the well-being of the entire community. As advocates for the city’s public schools, we believe:

Murphy Administration Announces Grant Initiative for High-Impact Tutoring - New Jersey School Boards Association 08/19/2023

High-impact tutoring grant approved for the 2024 fiscal year:

“As outlined in the New Jersey Department of Education’s July 28 broadcast memo, the $52 million will be disbursed via a single-year limited competitive grant initiative open to all school districts serving students in grades three or four. Grant funds may be used to compensate district staff for their tutoring services if the tutoring comports with evidence-based requirements detailed in the grant, or for contracting with an NJDOE-approved vendor”

Murphy Administration Announces Grant Initiative for High-Impact Tutoring - New Jersey School Boards Association On July 28, the Murphy administration announced that the fiscal year 2024 budget dedicates $35 million in federal COVID-19 relief funding to support districts in offering high-impact tutoring interventions for students disproportionately affected by the pandemic.

Mr. John Ciferni has been selected as the next principal of Lawton C. Johnson Summit Middle School, pending Board of Education approval at today’s meeting.

Mr. Ciferni is a consummate professional with a proven track record of successful building leadership as Assistant Principal of Summit Middle School for the past four years. He is passionate about advancing curriculum, fostering a positive, inclusive, and safe school environment, and developing staff members through meaningful professional development. Mr. Ciferni has established himself as a student-centered leader who understands the middle-level child. He is well respected within the community and is a perfect match with the profile created by our stakeholders for our next middle school leader.h

On Thursday, September 1, at 9:00 AM, SPS will be hosting a Parent Focus Group in the LCJSMS auditorium.

In this short meeting (~30 mins), parents will have the opportunity to share their input to help the district identify the best candidate for LCJSM principal. SI Hough and Mr. Gardella, Director of HR, will introduce a survey that will be sent to all parents, for this purpose.

Join if you can, and please make sure to answer the survey!
