On Monday, Jefferson Elementary School celebrated its yearlong commitment to showing Grit, Respect, and Responsibility. Since September, students have earned links from staff whenever they demonstrated one of these values. Those links created a chain around our atrium. Positive choices start a “Chain Reaction” for the rest of the school!
At the End of Year Assembly, top link-earners from each grade were selected to Pie the Principal in front of the whole school! Then, the school community took a photo holding the chain together. There was also a big surprise. Thanks to the generosity of 5th Grade and PTO, the students were introduced to the newest member of the family - TJ the Jaguar!

Since our students will be on summer break for the nation's actual 250th birthday on July 4, Summit Public Schools decided to start the party early! Today —the Friday before Flag Day—our district was a sea of red, white, and blue as we honored this historic milestone.
Here are a few highlights from around the district:
Franklin Elementary School: Students and staff enjoyed a schoolwide "stroll" around the building before gathering on the blacktop where the select chorus performed "The Star-Spangled Banner" while standing on the painted USA map.
Washington and other elementary schools: Kids sang patriotic songs and dressed in their best red, white and blue.
Summit High School: To visually represent our nation’s history, SHS students planted 250 American flags across the campus grounds.
Jefferson and Wilson Primary Centers: Our youngest learners joined the festivities with patriotic spirit, celebrating with their own parades and themed activities.
Beyond the parades, our classrooms have been buzzing with history and civics. From AP Government seniors teaching constitutional principles to 8th graders, to 6th and 7th graders analyzing the evolution of the American flag, our students are reflecting on what it means to be part of "America's Story".
Happy (Early) 250th Birthday, America!

Last night at the Summit Board of Education meeting, we gathered to honor the remarkable retiring individuals who have dedicated their time, talent, and heart to Summit Public Schools. It was a joy to celebrate the legacies of those who were able to join us in person: Wendy Donat, Winifred Caetta, Randi Katz, Diane Driesbach, and Marta Napoles.
We also extend our heartfelt gratitude to our retirees who were unable to attend: Barry Bridges, Anna Gomez, Michele Hauryluke, Colleen Manion, Beatriz Mendez, Gamel Nash, Denise Osmulski, Christine Reinholt, Matthew Schachtel, and Meredith Warmington.
Your unwavering commitment to "prepare students to thrive in an evolving world" has truly shaped our community. We are so grateful for your years of hard work and passion. Last week, our Primary Centers were filled with joy, music, and maybe a few happy tears as we celebrated our kindergarten move-up ceremonies!
At Wilson Primary Center, young scholars closed out the year on a high note during their celebration. Under the direction of music teacher Sarah Meadows, the children sang their hearts out in unison, creating a truly heartwarming experience for all the families in attendance.
These students aren't just finishing their first chapter of school—they are the future of Summit. We are so proud of their hard work, their curiosity, and the kindness they bring to our halls every day.
We can’t wait to see all the amazing things you’ll do as you move up to first grade.
