"Tacit knowledge is a web of networked and multidimensional knowledge; as such, it is also difficult to articulate or write. (Imagine trying to teach someone how to swim over the telephone or email.) Thus you usually need to do two things to access it: you have to seek out and make face-to-face contact with the source, and/or you have to ask context-specific questions to uncover it. ..
If someone has enabling information that can contribute to accomplishing our goals, we must be wiling to add their talents and their skills to our own, no matter how different that person is from us. Even if it implies that everything we planned or thought we knew was incorrect. To do this we must be capable of divorcing ourselves from our emotions. "
~ Pete Blaber - The Mission, the Men, and Me.
This is exactly the process behind our Immersive Dinner. The access experts are those living with hearing loss. They know what they need better than anyone. EASE hosts the dinner to allow those without hearing loss to put aside their own thoughts and learn from those who are d/Deaf, Hard of hearing, DeafBlind. Come learn with us on June 20th. You won't leave the same way you came in.

We do better when we know better!
EASE provides educational training on accessibility for HEARING people and organizations. The Deaf Community is the EXPERT on accessibility. They carry the responsibility of their own accommodations all the time. It's time the rest of society understands what needs to happen. Contact us to learn more on what your business/organization/etc. can do.

Today is World Bicycle Day.
How fun?
In general, sporting activities are accessible for the Deaf Community. But if you live in the lowcountry of South Carolina, like where EASE is based out of, bicycling outside of a path/park/specified area is not what we would call safe.
As someone who has biked on these roads, the "share the road" signs, lack of a bike lane, and so much more make it truly unsafe for anyone. We need more safety, bike lanes, separation from drivers, appropriate crossings, and so much more.
But even if you're out at a place like James Island County Park or the Sawmill Branch Trail, are those paths safe for someone with hearing loss? Always something to keep thinking about.
