The NAACP Houston Youth Council Unit #6820's Juvenile Justice Committee invites your child, grandchild, niece, nephew, or godchild to Beyond Scared Straight: A Teen Court Experience on Saturday, November 12, 2022, from 8:00 A.M. - 5:00 P.M. at the Texas Southern University Law School Moot Courtroom (3100 Cleburne St, Houston, TX 77004).

This advocacy program seeks to give students exposure to the Texas Court System through a mock trial where students have exposure to a court case and are trained by law officials on the various roles in the courtroom. Students will learn how sentencing discrimination in the Criminal and Juvenile Court System presents major civil rights problems. We seek to provide students with some solutions to resolving those problems.

Before you register your student, please note the following below:
· Dress Code: Business Casual (EX: blouse, slacks, pencil skirt, dress, collar shirt, polo shirt, flats, loafers, low heels, wedges, Sperrys, sneakers, or tennis shoes) Please do not wear jeans, t-shirts, shorts, short skirts, sandals, crop tops, jerseys, sagging pants, off the shoulder tops, see-through tops, halter tops, athletic wear, Crocs or slides.
· Food: We will provide a continental breakfast, lunch, and snacks. If you have any dietary restrictions, we ask that you bring your own food. Please note that there will not be a microwave or refrigerator available for use. If you have any specific concerns regarding food, please email us at [email protected]
· NOTE: Only students that can stay from 8:00 A.M.- 5:00 P.M. are allowed to register. Those who cannot remain from 8:00 A.M.- 5:00 P.M. should not register their student for the advocacy program.
· Please fill out one Google registration form per student.
· Spots are limited to the first 20 students who register and can commit to attending the program from 8:00 A.M.- 5:00 P.M.
The deadline for registration is Saturday, November 5, 2022, by midnight. Please see the link below to register your student.

The Federal government just announced more emergency money and/or rescue resources are coming to help struggling college students impacted by COVID.

The Smahrt Girl Foundation is founded on the principle that everything we need is in the village. We are able to execute consistent programming because of small businesses that support our mission to educate, empower and expose teen girls and women to resources, people and funding to live the life of their dreams!!!!

Smahrt Girl was initially established for teen girls who grew up in small towns with little access or exposure to programs and resources much like those available in more progressive cities. I was that girl. Mentoring, Camps and other supplemental learning opportunities was scarce. So God gave me the vision for Smahrt Girl!

The name Smahrt Girl came from my mom. Like most girls, my mother was my biggest champion and cheerleader! “You’re a smart girl , Pam. You will figure it out”. She said this to me my entire life. In fact, I can still hear her voice. Believe it or not, Smahrt Girl was just as much her organization. I can’t tell you how many times she gave my personal cell number out, encouraging girls or their moms to call me for assistance. She loved working with the girls just like she did with me. She was our CEO- Chief Encouragement Officer!

These girls right here… they truly fill my heart. I am so proud of them! I love bragging on them and I love seeing them in the room surrounded by other amazing women!

Tis’ the Season! Sending a major shout out to our community partner ! For the past 5 years, and has been a strong hands-on and ever present partner, financial supporter and mentor to The Smahrt Girl Foundation! Thank you so much for all you do for SGF and so many other organizations. You and are true jewels in our community!!! We will be forever grateful!!!

2021 Smahrt Girl Holiday Social!
