Summer of Psalms Week 2: Blessed in a Broken World

KEY VERSES

• Psalm 1:1-6 - Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the wicked, nor stands in the way of sinners, nor sits in the seat of scoffers; but his delight is in the law of the Lord, and on his law he meditates day and night. He is like a tree planted by streams of water that yields its fruit in its season, and its leaf does not wither. In all that he does, he prospers. The wicked are not so, but are like chaff that the wind drives away. Therefore the wicked will not stand in the judgment, nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous; for the Lord knows the way of the righteous, but the way of the wicked will perish.

• Joshua 1:8 - This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success.

• Jeremiah 17:7-8 - Blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord, whose trust is the Lord. He is like a tree planted by water, that sends out its roots by the stream, and does not fear when heat comes, for its leaves remain green, and is not anxious in the year of drought, for it does not cease to bear fruit.

• Romans 12:2 - Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.

• Matthew 7:24-25 - Everyone then who hears these words of mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock. And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house, but it did not fall, because it had been founded on the rock.

MAIN POINTS

1. Opening Reflection: Who Is Curating Your Life?
2. Point 1: Two Feeds, Two Lives
3. Point 2: Watch Your Influences
4. Point 3: Delight in God's Word
5. Point 4: Become Deeply Rooted
6. Point 5: You Are Known by God
7. The Big Idea
8. Going Deeper: Additional Scripture Study

REFLECTION QUESTIONS

1. Pastor Win described a slow drift: walk → stand → sit. Can you identify a time in your life when you drifted in this way without realizing it? What helped you recognize it — or what helped you return?
_______________________________________________________

2. What voices or influences currently have the most access to your daily life? Are those voices pointing you toward God or away from Him?
_______________________________________________________

3. The sermon made the point that 'delight is usually the result of exposure, not the requirement before you start.' How does this reframe the way you approach reading the Bible, especially in seasons when it feels dry or like homework?
_______________________________________________________

4. Think about the tree vs. chaff contrast in Psalm 1. In what areas of your life do you feel most rooted right now? In what areas do you feel most like chaff — easily moved by circumstances or cultural pressure?
_______________________________________________________

5. Pastor Win said, 'Blessed is not viral. Blessed is rooted.' How has culture's definition of 'the blessed life' influenced the way you measure your own success, happiness, or identity?
_______________________________________________________

6. Verse 6 says the Lord 'knows' the way of the righteous. How does it change your daily life to know that God sees your quiet, consistent faithfulness — even when no one else does?
_______________________________________________________

7. What is one specific voice, habit, or influence you feel challenged to be more intentional about this week, based on what you heard in this sermon?
_______________________________________________________

8. As a group, discuss what it would look like to practically 'choose a better feed' — not just individually, but together as a community. How can you help one another stay rooted?
_______________________________________________________

THIS WEEK'S ACTION STEPS

☐ Someone or something is always curating your life — the question is whether you are choosing intentionally.
☐ The drift away from God is rarely dramatic; it happens slowly through walk → stand → sit.
☐ Delight in God's Word is built through consistent exposure, not just emotional readiness.
☐ Fruit is the result of roots — a thriving life flows from staying planted near God's Word, not from striving harder.
☐ Blessed is not viral. Blessed is rooted.
☐ God does not just observe you from a distance — He knows you, sees your quiet faithfulness, and walks with you.
☐ The first feed of your day shapes the lens through which you see everything else.

The Playlist of God's People: Understanding the Book of Psalms

KEY VERSES

• Psalm 1:1–2 - Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the wicked, nor stands in the way of sinners, nor sits in the seat of scoffers; but his delight is in the law of the Lord, and on his law he meditates day and night.
• Psalm 13:1 - How long, O Lord? Will you forget me forever? How long will you hide your face from me?
• Psalm 22:1 - My God, my God, why have you forsaken me? Why are you so far from saving me, from the words of my groaning?
• Psalm 23:4 - Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.
• Psalm 46:1 - God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.
• Psalm 100:1 - Shout for joy to the Lord, all the earth. Worship the Lord with gladness; come before him with joyful songs.
• Psalm 139:23 - Search me, God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts.

MAIN POINTS

1. The Big Idea
2. Setting the Stage: What Is the Book of Psalms?
3. Main Point 1: The Psalms Teach Us How to Worship
4. Main Point 2: The Psalms Teach Us How to Pray
5. Main Point 3: The Psalms Teach Us How to Trust
6. My Notes & Reflections

REFLECTION QUESTIONS

1. The sermon compared the Book of Psalms to a road trip playlist. What do you think of that image? Does it change how you think about this book? Why or why not?
_______________________________________________________

2. Have you ever tried to 'clean up' your prayers before bringing them to God? What would it look like to pray with the raw honesty of David in Psalm 13?
_______________________________________________________

3. The sermon identified three things the Psalms teach us: how to worship, how to pray, and how to trust. Which of these three feels most needed in your life right now? Why?
_______________________________________________________

4. Psalm 22 opens with a cry of abandonment yet ends in praise. Have you ever experienced a moment where you chose to praise God even when you didn't feel like it? What was that like?
_______________________________________________________

5. The sermon says the Psalms 'slowly recalibrate how you see your circumstances' by placing them inside a bigger story. What does it mean practically to place your current struggles inside God's bigger story?
_______________________________________________________

6. If you were to describe your current season of life as a song on a playlist, what kind of song would it be — a hype track, a slow and honest ballad, something frustrated, or something else? Which Psalm might match that season?
_______________________________________________________

7. What is one obstacle that has kept you from spending regular time in the Psalms? What is one practical step you could take this week to remove that obstacle?
_______________________________________________________

8. The sermon closes with the statement: 'Whatever you're feeling, there's a Psalm for that.' What feeling or circumstance in your life right now do you most need to bring to God — and which Psalm might be a starting point?
_______________________________________________________

THIS WEEK'S ACTION STEPS

☐ The Psalms teach us how to relate to God in every season of life — not just the good ones.
☐ Worship is not a response to circumstances — it is a response to who God is.
☐ Prayer is not a performance for God; it is an honest conversation with Him.
☐ Every emotion is welcome in God's presence. None of it disqualifies you.
☐ The Psalms place our circumstances inside a bigger story — one where God is faithful and nothing is wasted.
☐ Whatever you're feeling, there's a Psalm for that.
☐ Praying the Psalms is one of the most ancient and effective spiritual practices in the history of the church.
☐ Trust is built not on the absence of hard seasons, but on the presence of God in the middle of them.

Psalm 23:1-6 (ESV) - The LORD is my shepherd; I shall no | YouVersion 06/08/2026

“The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He makes me lie down in green pastures. He leads me beside still waters. He restores my soul. He leads me in paths of righteousness for his name’s sake. Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me. You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; you anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life, and I shall dwell in the house of the Lord forever.”
