In early July, Ruidoso, New Mexico was hit with massive floodwaters, resulting in 3 deaths and millions of dollars in damages. I caught up with some of the survivors in the weeks after the incident to see how they're coping in their new reality.

H.B. 265 pulls $60 million dollars from funding for higher education and puts it into a reinvestment fund, to be earned back by schools that prove themselves to be "efficient." Rep. Karen Peterson says it's about making sure state tax dollars are being well spent, but a New York Professor says he's seen this playbook before, and it will undermine the entire purpose of state colleges and universities.

The Redwood Drive-In Swapmeet has been part of West Valley City culture for decades, but last month, the West Valley City Council voted to allow the land it sits on to be rezoned for a housing development. The move displaces hundreds of mostly Latino vendors. Estella Paredes has been at the swap meet for thirty years and depends on the income it provides. Utah education and disability advocates like Utah Education Association, Voices for Utah Children, and the Disability Law Center are speaking out against Amendment A, saying it will further erode an already poor public school funding system. But some say the fact that Amendment A adds an education funding formula to the state constitution means it actually adds protections for some education dollars.
