Identity theft is more common than you may think! Protect yourself by shredding documents!! The Stuart Police Department will be holding a FREE shredding event to help you protect yourself - see you there!!
STUART POLICE HOSTING SHRED EVENT TO COMBAT IDENTITY THEFT
Join us on Saturday, January 20, 2018 from 9am -12pm for a FREE shred event.
Identity theft and unauthorized disclosure of private information has reached epidemic proportions. According to the Better Business Bureau, last year alone this crime claimed more than 8.9 million victims. “Dumpster diving,” or rifling through trash cans for personal information, is a tactic used by identity thieves. You are taking a terrible risk if you don’t shred sensitive material.
What should I shred?
In short, destroy all sensitive information including junk mail and paperwork that includes:
•Account numbers
•Birth dates
•Passwords and PINs
•Signatures
•Social Security numbers
Bring up to three (3) boxes of documents for FREE shredding services. No notebook binders, binder clips, CD/DVD, batteries, metal objects or medications. Empty boxes will be returned to the owner.
A special thank you to SelectShred for continuing to partner with the Stuart Police Department in an effort to prevent identity theft.
