Had Henry Babson not walked the barns of Janów Podlaski in 1938, the story might have ended before it truly began.

Poland stood on the edge of a devastating war, and the fate of many horses remaining behind was tragically sealed in the years that followed. Had Kasztelanka not been selected and exported by Henry Babson, it is highly likely that she—like so many others—would have perished during World War II. And the story of a bay c**t would not have been written.

At the time, Kasztelanka was not acquired for her racing record, which was modest when compared to that of her half-sister Kostrzewa, but for her pedigree, type, and breeding potential. Babson recognized in her the Polish refinement and deep historic bloodlines. That foresight proved decisive.

Safe in the United States, Kasztelanka went on to produce Fadheilan by Babson’s chief sire Fadl—a mating that could never have occurred had she remained in Europe. Through Fadheilan came Fadjur, later celebrated as “The Fabulous Fadjur,” a stallion whose influence would shape American Arabian breeding on an unprecedented scale. Fadjur’s charisma, athleticism, and prolific sire record became a cornerstone of the breed, touching hundreds of pedigrees across disciplines.
