Aspirations for our young musicians!

A huge congratulations is in order! Violinist Brianna Cole began her musical training at a small community arts center at age five, practicing up to six hours every single day throughout her youth. Yesterday evening, she officially made her debut leading the entire string section of the historic city symphony orchestra during a sold-out opening night performance. Less than two percent of professional orchestral musicians nationwide are Black, making her appointment to the highest leadership rank on stage an extraordinary milestone. Leave a comment to show her some love!

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

HENRY FOR MUSIC Invites Community to Support Youth Musicians at May 21 Concert Experience

Henry County, Georgia — HENRY FOR MUSIC, a Henry County based 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to providing tuition free musical instruments, music education, and performance opportunities for youth, invites the community to attend its upcoming Youth Orchestra United concert experience on May 21 at Fairview Recreation Center.

The performance will feature students and scholars showcasing their musical versatility through a range of styles including orchestral repertoire, slow jams, and dance music. The concert reflects the organization’s continued commitment to Joy Through Music, creativity, collaboration, and music accessibility for young people across Henry County and surrounding communities.

“Our musicians truly benefit from performing in front of a supportive audience,” said Kevina L. Franklin, President of HENRY FOR MUSIC. “Programs like this are not only about music. They are about giving young people something positive to do, surrounding them with encouragement, and helping shape the next generation of civic leaders, creatives, collaborators, and community minded individuals.”

The concert experience is led by HENRY FOR MUSIC teaching artists Mrs. Brooke Alford Kilgore, internationally recognized jazz violinist and Lead Teaching Artist for the orchestral track, Mr. Gerren Keith, Lead Facilitator and pianist for the jam session track, and violinist/vocalist Ms. Evelyn Jewell assisting with both tracks.

Community members are encouraged to attend, including families, homeschool students, young creatives, and local musicians interested in volunteering or supporting youth arts accessibility. HENRY FOR MUSIC emphasizes intergenerational participation and collaborative learning experiences between students and musicians of varying backgrounds and experience levels.

Constellation and star themed attire is encouraged for attendees. Spring colors, sparkle, shimmer, and creative attire inspired by “diamonds in the sky” are welcome.

Tickets are $10 per person. Additional donations support music accessibility initiatives and youth opportunities throughout Henry County and surrounding communities.

🎨🎭🎶 BIG news for Georgia students and fine arts education!

Yesterday, Governor Kemp signed SB 556 into law, expanding HOPE Scholarship rigor recognition to include qualifying advanced fine arts coursework in dance, music, theatre, and visual art.

This legislation supports students pursuing rigorous fine arts pathways while strengthening connections to Georgia’s growing creative industries. Thank you to the educators whose feedback helped inspire this effort and to our state leaders for supporting opportunities that prepare students for life.

“This is a game changer for Georgia’s students!” — GMEA President Andy Esserwein
