Registration is open for our Daf Group Course AND Persian Drum Ensemble! Classes are beginning on Friday, September 12th at 6:30PM and 8PM. The classes will be led by Jalal Kimia and his wonderful teaching assistant Ruhi Afnan.
The Daf Group Course will focus on learning and developing techniques on the daf. Students will strengthen rhythm, tone, and playing styles with other daf players.
The Persian Percussion Ensemble will offer a broader experience where multiple percussion instruments such as tombak, dayereh, udu, cajon, darbuka, and more can be part of the ensemble. In addition to technique, the ensemble emphasizes arranging pieces together, listening across different instruments, and creating a strong sense of ensemble playing.

We’re excited to announce a new course at Studio Muse: the Persian Percussion Ensemble, led by Jalal Kimia with his teaching assistant, Ruhi Afnan.
Over the past few months, Jalal and I have been working on creating a course that brings together a wide range of percussion instruments. We wanted to go beyond just teaching technical skills on each instrument and create an ensemble where students can arrange songs together, make music as a group, and build a strong sense of community.
This 10–week course offers hands-on experience with instruments like the tombak, daf, dayereh, udu, cajon, darbuka, and more. Each week, we’ll rehearse, explore rhythms and dynamics, and prepare for a final performance to showcase what we’ve created together.
The class meets on Fridays from 8:00–9:30PM, starting September 12th. It’s open to all percussion students, whether you’re just beginning or already experienced.
