Staten Island jazz is taking center stage in a new Photoville installation! Created by Nataki Alexander-Hewling and the HERShot Girls Collective in partnership with Snug Harbor and Universal Temple of the Arts, the incredible local talent in our community is celebrated in A Great Day, a new dynamic public art display. This installation was created for and featured in the recent Photoville Festival.

A shy, lonely boy befriends a stray dog named Buddy. When the boy learns that the pup has a knack for basketball, he takes his new friend to the school coach, who names him as the new team mascot. Media attention soon causes problems for the canine when his animal-hating owner demands his return.

Experience the graceful movements of Tai Ji, often described as "meditation in motion" and "medication in motion" by Harvard Health Publishing. This low-impact, slow-motion exercise takes you through a series of motions named for animal actions or martial arts moves, all while breathing deeply and naturally. Unlike other exercises, Tai Ji's circular, relaxed movements are suitable for everyone, from the fittest to those recovering from surgery or confined to wheelchairs.

The Metropolitan Opera Summer Recital featuring Tessa McQueen, Lonwabo Mose, Alex McKissick, and Mariam Bombrun

An annual summer tradition, the Metropolitan Opera’s popular summer recital series in New York City parks continues this year, showcasing performances by members of the Met’s Lindemann Young Artist Development Program.

Performers include Colorado-born soprano Tessa McQueen, who spent the Met’s 2025–26 season as Helen in the company premiere of Mason Bates’s The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier & Clay, the First Lady in The Magic Flute, and Annina in La Traviata; Connecticut-based tenor Alex McKissick, who recently covered several roles in Gabriela Lena Frank’s El Último Sueño de Frida y Diego; and Lonwabo Mose, a bass-baritone from Cape Town, who is set to make his company debut during the Met’s 2026–27 season as Happy in La Fanciulla del West and the King in Aida; with accompaniment by Mariam Bombrun, a pianist and coach from Paris, with credits with the San Diego Symphony, Académie de l’Opéra National de Paris, the Met’s revival of Carmen, and Tosca at the Paris Opera.
