EAA 1327 hosts our annual Young Eagles rally during the Sentimental Journey Fly-In The Fly-In itself now only a month away is a great family aviation event! Fly-In, Drive-In and maybe we will see you at the Pig Roast there Saturday. night.

Sentimental Journey Fly-In began in 1986, when a small group of dedicated volunteers set out to bring something special back to Lock Haven—the airplanes built by Piper, returning to the runway where so many of them first flew.

Nearly all of the iconic tube-and-fabric Piper aircraft lifted off from this very field. Today, nearly four decades later, that same spirit lives on.
Now in our 40th year, Sentimental Journey welcomes all makes and models, with a special nod to taildraggers. Whether you arrive in a classic Cub or something entirely different, you’ll find a warm welcome—and a long grass runway waiting.

Sentimental Journey, Inc. is a Pennsylvania 501(c)(3) nonprofit, supported by volunteers and members who care deeply about preserving aviation history while keeping it accessible for future generations.

We are planning our annual Young Eagles Rally Friday June 12 and Saturday June 13. This is an event where we provide Free airplane rides for kids ages 8 to 17. Parent/legal guardian approval and signature required. This will be held in Lockhaven, Pennsylvania in conjunction with the Sentimental Journey Fly-in. Stay tuned for more details as we get closer.

Yesterday 16 members of EAA 1327 made the trip from State College and toured the Lycoming Engines factory in Williamsport, PA. We came away impressed! This video gives a short look at the Lycoming Engines Assembly Line

The Construction of a Light Aircraft (1943) filmed at the Piper factory in Lockhaven, PA circa 1943. It was apparently produced by the Extension Services of what was called at the time Pennsylvania State College, State College, Pennsylvania. Some of our local EAA 1327 pilots love the Piper Cub and know the history of Piper in Lockhaven well.

From the AERO DIGEST September 1943 PIPER Cub ad featuring the Piper L-4 "Grasshopper" role in the war effort. The enemy learned that shooting at L-birds often summoned artillery and allied forces. Note at the bottom of the page the reference to a movie about building light airplanes at Piper available in 16mm print from Penn State College Extension Services. I'll post a link to watch that movie shortly. Some of our local EAA 1327 pilots love the Piper Cub and know the history of Piper in Lockhaven well.

One of the benefits of EAA membership is the many webinars that are hosted. Some on safety, some on historical topics of interest, and many more. This one seems particularly germane to our members here in the State College area. There are many interesting "uncontrolled" airports in Pennsylvania and the surrounding states.
