The Geosystems Research Institute is expanding capabilities in marine and coastal research through the use of Uncrewed Surface Vessels (USVs). These innovative platforms allow researchers to safely and efficiently collect high-quality data in aquatic environments from rivers and estuaries to coastal waters!
USVs support a wide range of applications, including water quality monitoring, bathymetric mapping, and environmental assessments. By combining advanced sensors with remote operation, these systems help reduce risk, improve data collection, and open new opportunities for research and collaboration.

This week, colleagues from the United States Department of Agriculture Agricultural Research Service visited MSU to meet with research faculty and project leads to discuss the exciting work and development of the Geospatial and Environmental Epidemiology Research Unit (GEERU) at MSU!
GEERU brings together high performance computing-powered advances in geospatial technologies, artificial intelligence, and machine learning to explore new approaches in predictive biology and disease epidemiology. This collaboration represents a major step forward in leveraging cutting-edge tools to better understand and respond to complex environmental and biological challenges.
We’re excited about the partnerships being built and the impact this work will have across research, agriculture, and public health!
