Our "flash drought" continue to deepen. Today's update of the US Drought Monitor now puts 100% of Page County in the Extreme Drought (D4) category. This is the first time all of Page County is in this category since April 2002. Last fall's drought, at its peak, had 53% of the county in D4 Extreme.
• According to , groundwater and stream flow levels are at an "emergency" level, and the Drought Warning continues.
• Shenandoah National Park has prohibited fishing due to the dry conditions and high water temperatures.
• The Shenandoah River is around 1.6' at the White House Bridge gauge, slightly lower than last summer's lowest level.
• No local jurisdictions have mandatory water restrictions as of this post, but Front Royal and other regional providers are asking for residents to limit non-essential use.
• The record heat wave has broken, and more rain IS in the forecast in the coming days.
