Since July 2025, more than 3.5 million people have lost SNAP food assistance. That's nearly a 9% drop in enrollment, driven by tighter eligibility rules and expanded work requirements under the new federal law.
The Center on Budget and Policy Priorities is tracking the fallout in real time, and the picture is stark. As benefits shrink, more families are turning to food pantries, shelters, and rescue programs to put dinner on the table.
That's the work we do every day at Food Rescue US. Moving surplus food from where it would have been wasted to the neighbors who need it most. When safety nets shrink, food rescue scales up.

We're honored to be featured in Toast's 2025 Corporate Responsibility and Impact Report!
Over the past year, Toast has been an absolutely wonderful partner in our work. Toast.org has supported our mission financially, Toasters have volunteered alongside our community to roll up their sleeves and recover surplus food, and there's even more to come!
It's all part of something bigger; Toast has committed $5 million over five years to fight food insecurity. We're proud to be in that fight together, and we can't wait to see what we accomplish in 2026 and beyond.
Here's the full report; you'll find us on page 12!

14,204 food rescues in May. One unstoppable community of volunteers.
With gas prices up nearly 44% from a year ago, showing up came at a higher cost this month. Our rescuers showed up anyway. They loaded their trunks, planned their routes, and kept going because they know what's on the other end of every rescue: real food for real people.
To every volunteer who turned a key or pushed a button this month, thank you. You are the engine of this movement.

New data this week from the Federal Reserve Bank of New York shows that more Americans are going hungry now than at the height of the pandemic. 10% of families are missing meals, and nearly 16% rely on food donations to get by.
This is the reality behind every rescue we make. Rising food prices, tighter SNAP eligibility, and the end of pandemic-era relief have left more of our neighbors choosing between groceries and rent.
At Food Rescue US, we're working every day to close the gap between food that would have been wasted and the families who need it most. If this hits home, here's how you can help:

Today is World Hunger Day, a reminder that 733 million people around the world still go to bed hungry, even as 1.3 billion tons of food is wasted every year.
We were honored to be part of the conversations that shaped the World Food Programme's new Global AI Strategy 2025-2027, which lays out how AI can help accelerate progress toward Zero Hunger, from predicting food shortages to optimizing how aid reaches those who need it most.
At Food Rescue US, we see every day how smart technology paired with local action can move food faster, reduce waste, and feed neighbors. On World Hunger Day and every day, we're proud to stand alongside global partners working to make sure no good food goes to waste and no one goes hungry.
