The Health Benefits Counselor performs routine to complex (journey-level) health and insurance benefits counseling work in an on-the-job-training environment. Work involves providing customer service, counseling, and technical assistance to health plan participants; assisting with preparing reports; and participating in department and/or agency activities. Works under moderate to general supervision with limited to moderate latitude for initiative and independent judgment. This position is located in downtown Austin and reports to the Manager of Health Benefit Counseling.

Location: Downtown, Austin
Pay Rate: $23.00 Hourly
You must reside in the Austin, Texas or surrounding area. This is a hybrid position and equipment will be provided. The position will not be 100% remote. The role is (work-from-home (2days) and in-office (3 days) and the possibility to convert to a permanent employee.
Customer Service/Counseling: ๐
Actively participates in the Health Benefits Counseling training program.
โข Responds by telephone or written correspondence to inquiries from retirees, members, school districts, agency staff, and other interested parties regarding program requirements and associated agency laws, rules, policies, procedures, and systems.
โข Reviews requests and assists in researching member, retiree, vendor, and/or employer records for exceptions to enrollment status, and documents all findings and actions taken.
โข Obtains or provides needed information to members, retirees, employers, and/or vendor representatives by phone, in person or in written form.
โข Processes routine requests for enrollment.
โข Conducts reviews and analysis of benefit account records that are associated to individual research requests, or as a result of system exception reports.
โข Drafts letters to members explaining final resolutions of formal enrollment and eligibility appeals.

โข Assists with reviewing, compiling, and entering data into spreadsheets, databases, and other automated applications.
โข Assists with preparing periodic and ad-hoc reports based on data and other relevant information.

Collect and track survey data
Analyze existing information and data
Compile and report on gathered information/data to the Finance management team
Communicate effectively (verbally and/or in writing) about any trends observed regarding errors or problem areas
Assists with updating procedure documents
Conducts research
Analyze and upload electronic documents/files into multiple shared drives
May assist with general clerical tasks for other teams in the Finance Division
Minimum Education/Experience:
High school diploma or equivalency and 60 semester hours (2 years) of completed college credit from an accredited institution.
Three (3) years of experience providing administrative assistance for a program within an organization.
Graduation from a four-year accredited college or university will substitute for one (1) year of experience.
Experience with advanced functions in MS Excel such as formulas and pivot tables.
Experience working with multiple databases.
