Congratulations to Amanda Laws (show with special guest host, Melissa Joan Hart) from Veterans United. She is our September Volunteer of the Month!

Mallory, our Volunteer Coordinator recently asked Amanda a few questions about volunteering for Operation Shower. Enjoy what she had to say about her experience.

How long have you volunteered/approximately how many showers? This was my first one and it was such a blessing to be a part of it. I was able to serve on the preparation day and on the day of the shower.

What motivates you to volunteer with Operation Shower? We were given the opportunity to use funds from our Veterans United Foundation (the charitable arm of our company) where the employees give 1% of their income and the owner’s match it dollar for dollar. Then we are able to donate to different non-profits. Our goal is not only donate money but also time and bring awareness of the different nonprofits that others may not have heard of yet.

What’s your favorite part about volunteering with us? I got to greet each lady as they came into the shower. That was so special as I got to find out who they are, who was their guest with them, what they were having or recently had. One lady came in and was teary eyed and come to find out she had just had twins and they were in the NICU. I was able to hug and love on her and pray for the babies and for momma and daddy!

What would you say to those thinking about volunteering or giving to Operation Shower? DO IT. It was amazing to be a part of and watch these very deserving mommas get some unexpected support.

We appreciate your understanding that we wish nothing more than to be able to celebrate every military mom and that our criteria is in place to help us manage the number of submissions we receive.

Please read the following criteria to see if you qualify:
- Be able to attend the shower you are signing up for in person
- Must be military mom pregnant or have newborn no older than 3 months old on shower day, to include families having babies via surrogacy or adoption.
- 1st priority: Have a spouse or partner who is deployed or deploying (or other official duty separation) at some point during their pregnancy
- 2nd priority: Active duty spouse of or service member (E-6 or below)
- You have not been showered by Operation Shower in the last 3 years
- See form for any additional criteria

Note that filling out the form is not a guarantee of attendance but every effort will be made to include those who sign up. You will be contacted by an Operation Shower team member via email in the coming weeks!
